Re: What songs are you currently learning?
Right now I'm trying to complete the most hardest piece I've ever worked on, not that it's hard if you watch at the sheet or speed. But I really do struggle, those "patterns" shouldnt be hard, but it seems my brain just cant keep up with them. Practice practice, and more practice ( love the part at 55sec, and 1:35 ^_^ ):
So while working on that I have 2 small pieces, one with a weird left/right hand pattern, but easy, the x-files theme. Then I got this very easy piece that's actually sounds kinda hard:
Yousei no odori, a song from PlayOnline, Square Enix's online game "center".

I'm learning The Music of the Night and I'm stuck!
I've been to a few music lessons over the years (I'm 30) but I am still a complete beginner. (I write the names of all the notes underneath each note before I start learning to play a song!) I'm trying to learn The Music of the Night by Andrew Lloyd Webber. I'm in desperate need of some help though as I'm stuck on one bit as it just doesn't sound right. I'm learning it bit by bit like Andrew said (Furmanczyk, not Lloyd Webber! ), but I can't carry on until I've got this right. If this is in the wrong place, please let me know so I can move it.
[img][/img]
I'm stuck on the 'lis-ten to the mu-sic of the night'.
'and' = f sharp
'lis' = f sharp, b, g (is that right?)
'mu' = c, e, g (?)
The link to the whole song is here: http://www.4shared.com/file/28486286/8c846637/andrew_lloyd_webber__music_of_the_night.html?dirPwdVerified=afb04bd4
Of course if anyone actually played the keys for me in slow mo on the keyboard/piano, I would be eternally grateful!!!
Thank you in advance!

Re: What songs are you currently learning?
Hi
Hm - F sharp?? There is no sharps there!!!
So from that pic, the F is a plane F... - Its not until after the Keychange later, that the F is a sharp..
Lis = F - Bb(flat) - Gb(flat)
As you can see from the Keysignature the G-A-B-D-E is ALL b(flats)
Mu = Gb(flat) - Eb(flat) - C
Tip: Learn about keysignatures and what they are. Cause it seams you dont know how to read keysignatures?? That is essential in sheet-reading!

Well ok then, that's obviously why I'm finding that part difficult!! Thanks very much!
What is the best way to start learning how to play, by practising scales?

What the best way is, im not sure. But practicing scales is as far as I know a REALLY smart thing to do
I have gained alot from that kind of practice, not only in the understanding and easyness it gives the start to learning a piece, but also fingerstrenght, presission and speed.
Re: What songs are you currently learning?
That's great, thank you.
I have some scales from one of my old piano teachers. I usually find scales quite boring so have gone straight on to learning a song I like.

Well, scales can be practiced at the same time. You should get worm before you play and then 5min with scales is a Great way to start

Moonlight Sonata? Fur Elise? Canon ect
Those are known and good pieces, I like them and they are "mainstream" and easier than the Turkish March.
Upload a vid of your performance? Im sure some comments would be helpeful and inspiring. Feel free to use the performancetopic

Kanon (thanks Thomandy)
I don't have enough bass keys, so I am thinking of playing everything in an octave higher (I have a synth so...) What do you think of it?

I think that might be a good idea Then you can at least just lower it one octave and play it correct when you perform on a real piano or anywhere else.
Re: What songs are you currently learning?
I've been pretty much fooling around these days, not been able to complete one song, but starting several. When completed 10-15 bars it seems to go slower and slower, and suddenly I find myself play another song practicing the first minute of it.....
This is a bad habbit, to not complete a song...
I should really finish what I start, but there is so much to play
And video's from me have to wait untill I get the Canon 5D, I was going to buy the Canon HV30 ( almost like the one Andrew has ), but since I'm into photography, and been alot into video before I'm better of with a DSLR that outperforms every videocamera out there. Price is stiff, but worth a couple of months delay isnt it.
Atleast I'll have some time to sort out what songs to learn properly ^_^

Re: What songs are you currently learning?
I was like that in the beginning to Victor. I started lots of songs, and completed 1/3 of them. Then I started to approach things in a different way. I made a new rule to myself:
Rule part 1: The song has to be Challenging or very easy
Rule part 2: I REALLY have to want to play it
Reason for part one, the challenging songs improves my skills and the easy ones lets me learn more songs, cause I usually finish easy songs in 20-60 min, which allows me Not to get bored with them.
Reason for part two, then I avoid getting the problem of choosing songs that I would stop after a while.
There are lots of songs I would like to play, but I dont start them cause I know they are just that hard that it would take some time to learn them, and then id get bored and stop them. So instead I only go for the ones I feel: THAT ON I HAAAVE TO PLAY
Cause those songs, I dont get bored of
Might work for you to? I dont know, just what I do
Good Luck
