Best height of keyboard notes
Hey,
I have already for years and years a Roland E-70 keyboard. Unfortunately, I also did not play it for years and years.
Now, thanks to internet etc, I want to restart playing for which this site will help me a great deal.
At this moment however, I'm wondering what the ideal height is from the floor where the keyboard white and black notes should be positioned, so I can place my keyboard on a similar height.
Let's say I don't find the standard height back on the internet nor have I a classical pianoforte in house any more.
Could someone start measuring the distance for me?
Thanks a lot
Dieter from Belgium

Re: Best height of keyboard notes
Hey there, the measurement from the floor to the start of the white keys on my baby grand here is 71cm or 28 inches. Hope that helps
Re: Best height of keyboard notes
Huh. I measured my keyboard's height out of curiosity, and it ended up being at around 28 inches. What a coincidence, heh.
Re: Best height of keyboard notes
Thanks,
I guess I will have to adapt my keyboard as its 5cm higher than what you are indicating to me.

Isn't it related more to the hight of your seat?

I recall a lesson showing the proper playing position and distances. I usually refer to it for myself, but haven't found a solid method. I fine tuned my keyboard height to my arms using college notebooks from past disciplines. What a friend calls "temporarily definitive" or was it the other way around...

Re: Best height of keyboard notes
I wouldn't worry about 5 cm or so.
I would bet that conservatory pianos gain that much height when they are on casters, which they seem to be 99% of the time (-:

Seems like 28.5'' is the standard, see [8.5] in this article:
http://www.faqs.org/faqs/music/piano/general-faq/
But for some pianos it is 28'':

maybe because people are getting taller compared to mediaeval times. The important part is posture and an adjustable bench, see this lesson from Andrew:
