is it ok with a keyboard?
hey! im a piano lover.. i play a little bit but i dont have a piano at home so im not able to practice and everything all the time well most of the time actually..
well anyway the point is that i really want to practise every day and get better so i thought about buying a keyboard just to have for a year or so and then buy a piano. now i have a bunch of questions about this.. first of all how big difference is it between a piano and a keyboard? like can you just jump on to play a piano after you have learned to play a keyboard? i know that it is less keys on a keyboard.. does that mean that all the keys sound different from a piano? i mean a C on a piano and a C on a keyboard..does it sound the same? are there many songs you cant play with a keyboard? yea well the most important one is if i can play a piano after i have learned all the basics on a keyobard and if i can play as nice at the piano as i play at the keyboard??? i know its not much emotion playing a keyboard but i simply dont have the ability to buy a piano right now cuz were moving next summer and also because itll take me a while to collect the money:):/ im definitely going to buy a piano someday thts certain but until then is it ok with a keyboard??

Re: is it ok with a keyboard?
Hi
I can try to answer
Well, what I usually say, is that you can create sound with a keyboard, but you can make music with a piano This sort of summons the difference, but Ill talk a little more about it. A keyboard lacks dynamic control, usually even though there are variations. You don't got weighted keys, the keys are usually plastic which is set for a totally different feel, more like its a toy and not a instrument.
But still if you plan to test if you like it, and if you do, you are planning to buy a piano, then I say go for it. Cause its a great way to get started You can learn scales/key-signatures, fingerings, get known around the piano, learn simple songs and get your fingers used to move freely and independent. Also, even though its like I say, that you create sound and not music with a keyboard, sound can be nice to listen to
A C on a keyboard is a C on a piano, its the same system So yeah, its sounds the same! You can play most popsongs, easy classical pieces, some harder pieces on a keyboard, but it depends on how many keys you got. If you got 88 keys, you can play any piece there is
I used a keyboard for about 3months and developed a little, and it took me about 3-4 days to get used to the piano. But for me the Real development started at once when I got my piano But yeah, you will soon adapt and transfer your keyboard skills to the piano And I would also predict that you will see a better progress once you get the piano But its also very individual of course
So in many ways, the keyboard sucks, but as a beginning and as an introduction its Awesome So as long as you get a piano when you can, if you still play, you will be just fine I think
So go ahead and get the keyboard, but I would recommend getting one with weighted keys and dynamic control IF you can get on Also 88 keys are recommendable
There are some digital pianos as well that is easy to lift, and travel with, that is in a low price range as well, like 800-2000 bucks. Andrew got a GREAT lesson/discussion-video about the subject When I saw It for over a year ago, I ordered a Digital Piano within 4 hours, and sold my keyboard hehe

Re: is it ok with a keyboard?
For learning they say (and after a few months of learning I also agree) grand piano > upright piano >> digital piano >> keyboard
most of the time, there's exceptions of course...
