Re: What are your favourite Piano compositions?
endre wrote:Nice topic, it gives some ideas.
I don't know classical to be honest so it'd be tough, but I just "found" some 25 CDs worth of classical piano music on the Internetz in .flac format (meaning good quality) so I'll know a bit more, hehe.
For now...
- I found something I seem to like a lot. Chopin, Waltz op 62 no 2 (c# minor). Kinda current favorite...
People play it very random but I like this guy's interpretation:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WpDH5zbhIk
- I like Canon, the George Winston version. Seems kinda much more.. living than the original.
- Indeed I need to check on some Vivaldi, I remember the four season being real nice but didn't hear it since a long, long time...
Too bad I don't have a proper sound system, classical music really requires some proper quality.
Hehe... Its funny to see how you discribe it : "... but I like this guys interpretation"
Nothing wrong, but thats Artur Rubinstein, maybe 20centerey nr 1 pianist! So I just thought it was funny he was refereed to as "this guy" hehe
You are right, this is one of my favorites! So distinct
And strange thing is that I stumbled upon this video yesterday, and now you post it here ...
I can recommend more Chopin and others:
Nocturne Op9 No1
Nocturne Op48 No1
Nocturne in F# minor
Nocturne "Libestraum n3"
Re: What are your favourite Piano compositions?
Hehe... well I think I wrote that intentionally, I mean I seen several interpretations of this peace on youtube and they are all so different. There's been other good pianists too but for this particular piece I think Rubinstein's was that I liked most.
It must not be the same with all pieces he ever played, who knows
I seen some stuff from Horovitz and he's kinda good, too
For example
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFvqvZOtCF0
Maybe a bit off topic to talk about performers so I'll say I also like this piece, Chopin Polonaise in A-flat major, Op. 53, but I think it depends so much upon the interpretation... funny.
Will check your suggestions, too, thanks.

Yeah I see
Well let me know what you think of them =)
Yeah, its the Heroique is Awesome!! Love that one! - Yeah, Interpretations is Essential Not strange at all in my book. Every man and women that play piano can play every single piece thats ever written... But will they all play all the pieces good? Not, because this is the main/hard part about music Even La Campanella is playable if you play it at 1BPM right? But it wont sound good until you get it up to speed and play the notes in a beautiful way
Re: What are your favourite Piano compositions?
hmmm favourite pieces ... Some examples:
F.Chopin Nocturne no.20 Opus post. in cis sharp minor from the film the pianist ^^
F.Chopin Fantasy(/ie) Impromptu Op.66 is in my opinion a very nice piece

J.S.Bach Toccata and Fug(u)e in d minor
F.Liszt La Campanella

Re: What are your favourite Piano compositions?
I know a lot but I forgot the names of most of them. Here are a few I remember.
1. Heart & Soul
2. The River Flows In You by Yiruma
3. Moonlight Sonata 1st, 2nd, and 3rd movement
4. Fur Elise
I just started playing piano so I don't really know how to play them... it is kind of hard trying to teach yourself.

Re: What are your favourite Piano compositions?
Beethoven's Moonlight, Appassionata but most of all Pathetique.
The darker Chopin works like Op. 55 no 1 in F.
Mozart's Rondo in A minor, especially the start and Lacrimosa.
Rachmaninoff's Op.25 no. 5 in G minor.
Lots of Nobuo Uematsu works, mainly from FFIX like Vamo' Alla Flamenco.
Seems I like either very happy stuff or very sad stuff, with very very little in the middle.

This!!!! Most beautiful song ever!
Trio of piano, violin, cello. I really like the the melody of the piano
& another trio of piano, violin, cello. Where the piano is more background music and the violin takes the lead.
& a piano solo which I just love! I hope I can play it someday in my life.

Favourite Bach pieces
I love playing the piano but found it was too hard to name my favorites ...there are so many. So I thought I'd just list my favorites by JS Bach:
French Suites: No 2
English Suite No. 2
Goldberg Variations (I managed to memorize No 1, 18, 19 -- still working on learning the theme by heart)
Partita No. 4
It's not that I don't like other composers -- I love Brahms and Beethoven, Chopin and Mendelssohn, Grieg and Debussy to name just a few. But for me, I guess, it's Bach, Bach and more Bach.

I love Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit (Ondine and Scarbo)
I also like Messiaen's music (Here is an example)
Schubert's first impromptu is nice too.
And this rendition of the Schubert sonata in A is amazing.

The rachmaninoff piano concerto no. 3. All three movements are beautifull but the first movement has the most epic, adrenaline filled moments in it in all of music history
