Digital Piano -> what PC program ?-> better piano voice
Hello
I request to solve my problem, dilema.
I have a dig. piano Casio Privia Px-110. It is voicing not bad, but i need voice more similar to old and analog grand piano or making experiments on sound.
As a guitar player i use electic guitar -> *.VST plugin called Amplitube -> and i get sound similar to original tone of overdriven guitar. It is made by Reaper host program and working at audio line-in port of my sound card.
So now i ask the question:
1. Is anywhere soft program on PC similar working to Amplitube based on ASIO drivers/vst plugin that let me making better tone of my digital piano ? I assume, that I will not use MIDI interface, couse dunno how it works. I tested program called Pianoteq v 2.2, but it operate on MIDI only. I need operating on my line-in real time process program.
Any suggestions ?
Thx.
P.S. I am learnig now Chopin extraordinary song nocturne F minor from op 55 no 1 and on the occasion of that I could record it in experimental tone of my digital piano "overclocking sound".

I would be interested in this topic as well.
I have the PX-120 Privia and the sound is not bad, but for my taste, it sounds to warm with too less brilliance. And in the middle range, it sounds not like a grand piano at all, but a bit sine-like.
Uhm ... you don't want Midi, because you don't know how it works?
That's imho absolutely no reason for not using Midi, cause the only way you get want you want will have Midi as a necessity.
Wikipedia know much about Midi ...

There is no such thing like program using line in sequence. The only thing that can modulate and change this type of signal is amp / pre amp. I mean yes there are sound studios apps but man itll take u " a while" untill u learn how to use it. . .
There is a lot of programs as far as i know. I wont tell u the exact name becouse i dont use it and i might dispell something, but here is how it works:
U have to connect ur keyboard to computer via midi->usb, then run the program. When u press for egzample middle C, the keyboard sends the keycode of the key u pressed to the pc, and thru pc to the program. The main point is, u can totaly chang it that way. U can set this key as trumpet or grand piano middle C or even sound of the windows error if u like it that way. So u have to load the grand piano preset to the programm and itll all be fine.

Ok, i bought MIDI interface and now i am playing with program Pianoteq or Stainway Piano Stainberg.
You can check that experiment below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvEkBCCYPSc
First Sensation - sound seems to have longer duration with pedal than original sound of my Casio. I still experiment on it to find best wave.

Nice performance, but maybe improve your chords, see e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iu5USR73COs . I can't describe it, but it sounds more emotional.
Re: Digital Piano -> what PC program ?-> better piano voice
I will suggest Synthogy Ivory, they got alot of piano VSTi's. Both grands and upright.
MIDI = digital
in-line = analog
The guitar is analog, I use Guitar Rig 3 for that ^_^

Re: Digital Piano -> what PC program ?-> better piano voice
for around 200 us dollars i purchased some vst intruments for my computer to use... komplete synths was the name of it... midi is very simple and it seems like u figured it out but i can answer any questions you might have about it... anyways since you have a midi interface you just connect the outs to the ins and find a decent sequencing programs(reason and fruity loops for looping... nuendo or cubase for live recording) then you just do some simple routing and installing and your in business... with a program like komplete synths your get 4 diff synth programs when i bought it it came with massive, fm-8, and i forget the others...anyways these will have tonsssssss of sounds including some really really good piano sounds... they also leave room to tweek the sounds after you get more comfortable with the technique involved with this. the stock sounds are definitly on point as they come though!!

Re: Digital Piano -> what PC program ?-> better piano voice
Sound quality OUT of a laptop is usually poor, regardless of how good the piano sound simulation may be.
I have a laptop without an express card (or PCMCIA) slot, so cannot use an "internal" sound card.
I am looking at external USB sound cards, there seem to be MANY of them ranging in price from about $5.99 to 100 times that, maybe more.
I am ASSUMING that the virtual instrument (e.g. Synthogy Ivory) sends it's output as a data stream representing voltage levels at finite points along the waveform (taken at 44, 48, 96, or 192 thousand times, or so per second) and that the external sound card just does a D to A conversion of that.
Hopefully when that is fed to a decent pre-amp or powered speaker system the resulting "fidelity" (I hesitate to use the term) is a close (enough) representation of the original instrument that was sampled.
So, please help me select a decent external sound card while keeping SOME of my money aside for a reasonable virtual instrument.
Also correct my understanding of how this stuff works if I am way off (-:
tnx

Re: Digital Piano -> what PC program ?-> better piano voice
Your description is right. For my PC I have a Creative X-Fi soundcard, but for my laptop and for MIDI-in/out, I use an edirol ua-25 ( http://www.roland.com/products/en/UA-25/ ) which has high quality audio input, output, microphone amplifier and MIDI-in/out. If you just need some audio output, a less expensive version should do it. Usually chances are good, that the quality is good, if it is a well-known audio equipment company, e.g. Roland, or this one: http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/UCA202.aspx . I know Behringer, but I don't know the output device. Maybe you can find some test reports.
Same for the amplifier and loudspeaker: Don't buy useless magic frozen golden audiophool cables, but e.g. active studio monitoring speakers with balanced signals and XLR connectors for best quality. Or a good headphone.

Thanks Frank, much appreciated.
That unit seems to fit the bill, some sites say it is superseded by ua-25ex, but either one will do the job.
I only want/need midi in from the keyboard and USB sound out to my (OLD) existing pre-amp.
Oh, did I say "OLD" ? (-:
It was all "good in it's day" and hasn't degraded much for lack of use.
Yamaha KX-88 keyboard/midi controller - weighted keys.
Roland U220 - this is what will be replaced by a virtual instrument
Alesis Quadraverb - not much use for this, it was an impulsive purchase and effects are/were fun to play with - for a few hours.
Peavy KB100 keyboard amp and speaker , about a 15 inch main driver IIRC and I don't remember what other speakers are in there.
It all sounds better than my playing, but I would like to get the laptop in and mess around with some of the teaching/learning software, or at least measure how consistent my playing is.
I have to admit, I don't NEED the better voice'd piano, it is a want/desire (-:
