pedal problem
Hello,
A newbie question for which I hope someone could shed some light. I started playing piano some six months ago. I bought Casio CDP-200R digital piano. Some weeks ago I started to take lessons which are done by an acoustic piano. I noticed that I'm completely lost with the pedal. With my Casio I've played with max reverb and keeping sustain pedal down the whole time and the sound virtually never blurrs. But with the acoustic piano it starts immediately to sound terrible if pedal is held down the whole time. I checked the manual and asked from the store but no help, I cannot blur the sound with my Casio meaning that I cannot learn to use the pedal properly (I know the principle). Could there be some other settings besides the reverb or is it possible that there are differences in the actual pedals (mine is quite cheap)? Any help would be highly appreciated.

Re: pedal problem
Are you sure you've setup the pedal input for sustain? I don't know your keyboard, but at http://www.casio-europe.com/de/emi/compact/cdp200r/technischedaten/ I've read that you can setup it for Sustain, Sostenuto, Soft, and rythmen-start/stop.
But acoustic pianos sounds different, maybe you mean this? And usually a digital piano has only a on/off sustain pedal, but on an acoustic piano you can use a bit or a bit more pedal. Nevertheless, you should not hold it down all the time, but usually you should release it just before pressing a key which is not in harmony with the other keys.

Re: pedal problem
When i talked with the store last time here where i live, they said that the pedal that follow the piano (Yamaha P85) when i buy, doesnt work exactly like a real piano. So i have to buy another pedal. can it be something like that?
Hope you get it solved

Re: pedal problem
Thanks for the answers. I tried with another somewhat more expensive pedal but noticed no difference. I also tried to change the sustain/sostenuto settings but no help there either. I also tried with a more expensive elec. piano and a cheaper synthetizator and playing similarly to my Casio, it was wasy to get the same blurr as with acoustic piano (but which does not arise with my Casio). I know the idea of using the pedal but the problem is that if I use it as little as needed with the acoustic piano, the sound gets "bouncy". Anyhow, thanks again for the input, I think I'll try to contact someone from Casio directly.
