Looking for powerful piano performances
Hello everybody,
as I am new to the forum first of all a hello to all participants.
As mentioned in the topic I am looking for some hints regarding what i call "powerful piano performances". I am aware of the fact that almost everbody has a differing intension reading this topic. So let me detail what I want you to help me with:
I like pianos in a lot pieces of music for a long time. Most of them were pop music pieces or even electronic music pieces having a piano or piano synthesizer. So "piano"might be the wrong term here, but for me as a newbie let's stay with the term piano. After a while of collecting music I stumbled over the following piece:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFbwcen0dI0 (the interesting part starts at 0:28)
And after a while I thought: Wow, these piano parts are really powerful. For me a "powerful piano performance". And here is the part where you come into the game: I searched the web, the stores and what else I could find from time to time, but I always ended up with rather smooth piano pieces. But - nothing hit me like that piano performance did. To sum it up: I guess i am looking for the rage against the machine sound for pianos. I am looking for power, maybe speed and most probably loud. Maybe just energetic piano sound. So:
Do you know any similar piano performances without a singer which comes into the range of the above piece?
I see this whole exercise as a starting point to dive a bit depper into piano music as i already have a lot of calm pieces in my collection, but I am missing the ... yes .. and here i am lost again :-)
Thanks in advance for pointing me into the right direction.
Cheers
Christian

Re: Looking for powerful piano performances
Sadly the youtube quality of both is not so well:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmdGbUzv4SM or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPTe1xMB9Uk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0nrg7Lqfak (tune up your speakers abit more, low volume medium) or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82DKeZXpSmI
p.s.: I consider only dynamics in tempo and volume to be able to create emotions of power (or anxiety). If you just go for loudness it will sound flat and annoying.

Re: Looking for powerful piano performances
As I was watching videos on youtube I came over this "new" piece I havent heard yet, because I havent bought the PS3 yet, about to do it when Gran Turismo arrives. Anyway, this is from MGS4, didnt really think they could match the original theme, but this piece sounds pretty powerful on real piano I expect.
MGS4 - Metal Gear Saga, piano sheet and how it sounds:

And how I came by it ( searching for violin stuff ), great performance by these two guys ^_^:
