Video Game Practice?
So in my beginning with piano, I noticed my left hand is quite a bit more coordinated than my right hand. This seemed pretty strange, being that I'm right handed, but then I solved the mystery. GUITAR HERO! (and Rock Band). I played Rock Band and Guitar Hero quite a bit over the last year or so, thus using my left fingers quite a lot on those colorful little buttons. Anyone else have improved piano skills from Guitar hero? Just thought it was kinda neat

Re: Video Game Practice?
Haha. I do not play guitar hero but I know what u are talking about. Recently I have decided to finally stop one of my lifes biggest habits: a game called World of Warcraft for the PC. This game has consumed me and I'm glad to finally be free of it. The past few months I would spend 8-14 hours a day clicking away furiously with my mouse and pounding my keyboard keys. Now I have lots of free time and I have decided to refocus my creative roots and finally start learning piano like I have always wanted to. I do believe all that constant finger excersie from my recent months has definetely helped a lot with my flexability and stamina. Dont get me wrong, learning to play piano is definetely tough, but I do think that video games have helped me slip into it a bit easier then otherwise. Now if only I had been investing the hours I spent on WoW on playing the piano instead. I kid you not I would be a fricken Mozart by now seriously.

Re: Video Game Practice?
I'm confident the amount of typing I've been through in my journies about the intertubes have given me fairly strong fingers.
However, time has yet to tell how much this will contribute to my success in learning the piano.

Re: Video Game Practice?
I have just given up online games for a few months as well, including WoW. Started playing the keyboard for the first time about two days ago and currently waiting for Andrews video tutorials to download. Playing with the left hand feels so much more natural than playing with the right, it can get quite frustrating at times

Re: Video Game Practice?
I've played guitar hero for years. Tons of FC's and I can pretty much tackle any song, yet I don't really feel any difference between my left hand and right hand
I've also done lots of things like pen spinning (check it out online) and other things that require finger dexterity so I assume my hands have just evenly strengthened.

I've been working with computers for a long time. I think typing on a keyboard is great exercise for your hands. I can move them very fast, so it was a little easier to start learning.

Re: Video Game Practice?
Interesting idea. I have guitar hero in the house but I've only played it a few times, and boy am I terrible at it! Coincidentally, I'm also not very good with my left hand. Or is it a coincidence?
