Ideas for new lessons
I guess all the ideas that people got, can be posted in the same topic. so we avoid severeal different topics talking about the same. But thats not up to me. But I got a suggestion;
Historylesson!
Whit Andrew as the teacher, it just cant be boring.
Conntent:
Some of the Greatest and most well known componists. What are their (key)signature and style and so on.
(Keysignature, I guess was a bad joke, but whatever ) Who I would like to here about I guess is:
- Beethoven, Back, Mozart, Chopin and the Norwegian Edward Grieg
Maby pressenting a little bit from their most know play and so on?! Hehe Quite a litte project this came to be.
But if this is possible i dont know, and parhaps need alot of effort since we are talking about you sparetime. But I guess you also have some favorite, and know quite alot about some or many of the componists allready.
Just a suggestion if you aint got no ideas or somthing

Well I think Andrew would need to create sound files of these pieces. For one probably he doesnt know them all by heart and second we cant put him into the stress to use his fingers too much. Mixing all these content sounds like a LOOOT of work what Andrew might not have.
He might be able to give just a music history lesson from his point of view. That would be interesting to see
Until then let me advise you an excellent page with tons of information on the topic

You are right on here. That I would like to see. Andrew personal tuch that is interesting
I have read some theory, and find it less entertaining to read. So Andrews personal tuch, where he also could say somthings about what his favorite composers did, that made them favorites in his opinion
Re: Ideas for new lessons
personal touch hey? I sort of did a lesson like that i think it was lesson #15 ^_^ Do you remember that one
Either way i'm honoured that i'm THAT interesting

Re: Ideas for new lessons

Re: Ideas for new lessons
Yes, it is actually a great videolesson And I guess I got an overall impresion on the 5 main periods. I guess I will use what I learned to "inerpite" Fur Elise when I get my dig piano. There are many of those low, the suddnaly high - parts where one can have som fun with p and f

Im planing on doing that. Parcticing it alot now, but I find it hard to hold a stedy left hand in the second solo.
The part you push the one key continuesly. The right hand is comming along, but to much p - f -p -pp -ff in my left still
But cant cry about that, just practice more

Don't worry! You'll get it! If you want a constant sound try playing LH by itself, and try ghosting it. (ghosting is pushing the keys down just a tiny bit without making a sound) then do that with the metronome at the same time. That'll keep you steady and making the same sound ^_^

Maggie, add that page to your sheet music sources thread!
The site is in the thread ... and it is not in the sheet music source forum... it is in the help for the beginners section.
Re: Ideas for new lessons
Andrew, if you make any other tutorial, learn us to play Penguins ^^. Or can you send me the sheet?

've been searching the whole net, but cant find the sheets for it, so would be really nice if Andrew would show us
how to play it or something like that, because I just love that piece, and it's not to complicated either....

I agree with Andrew, that in generall it is better to teach how to milk than to give away a glass of milk
Teach how to fish, rather than give away a fish. If you feed a man, he will be full for a day. If you teach him to hunt, you will keep him full for a lifetime Done with the metafores? No, I dont think so. To shoot a bear, you ned a rifle. To get a girlfriend, you ned sharm. If you want somthing for free, it might make you broke. To read a book, you need to learn how to read, and if you want to walk, you ned to crawl first. You cant jump, if you dont got legs(unless you can jump on your hands)
So, what Im trying to say: Its better to teach how to do the work yourselfe, than do the work for you
Good hunting

Thanks Thomas! I appreicate you agreeing with me! The thing is, if I just teach certain songs, then no one really gets what they want. If I teach you how to do the work yourself you can learn the things you want to learn and everyone is happy! ^_^ but i'll probably give advice on different songs from time to time!
Re: Ideas for new lessons
Yup, well put. There are several shortcuts on youtube. But guys, why not put in the work yourselfe, become good, and you wont need the shortcuts anymore because the path you are walking will then be so good to walk, that those creepy and scary sidepaths dosnt really seem so interesting to walk anymore?!!!! =)
Re: Ideas for new lessons
How about the sheet? Or the name of the composer atleast

I check youtube and I got tons of videos with cute penguins but no particular song...
So you advise that everyone needs to just be perfect in eartraining and do it for themselves? can u do that?

Woow I did not know you are training to be a philosopher or a guru
Of course I understand that you are defending Andrew
I think it is a thousand times better what Andrew does in teaching than to just show how to play one song.
