Choosing the Right Piano Teacher
Hi everybody.
I am new to the Piano. I am trying to figure out how to select the right piano teacher. Should I ask them to play for me. What should I ask them to play?
thank you John

Re: Choosing the Right Piano Teacher
I had a very bad experience early in my piano career because I had the wrong teacher. Our personalities simply could not mix without creating an explosive. So I spent ten years hating the piano, but now that I have the right teacher, it's my life.
If they really know what they're doing, they might play something for you, but they will definately want you to play for them, even if you don't know what you're doing. I'd recommend looking for someone experienced, if possible talk to some of their other students about their teaching techniques and personality. Find someone who you think you'll work well with, then give them a try for a while, and be open to what they teach you.
I hope this helps,
Sparrow
