What is most easy?
Sheets vs Memory
I wonder:
What is actually most impressive or if I put it deifferently. What is easyest??
To use sheets while playing or memorizeing the piece and practice it?
There reason I ask Is because sooo many on youtube think that I use sheets when the see some sheets in front of me, and when I say I dont use it, its like they dont belive me. But the truth is that I feel that its WAY harder to use the sheets at the same time as playing. Atm it is impossible for me to do so.
So what do you guys think??

Re: Sheets vs Memory
For me, playing by memory is much easier then sight reading through a whole piece. I'd probably have a sheet in front to remind me in case I forget something, but I prefer using my memory. I never liked sight reading to be honest.

Well Im not thinking about sightreading. I think about using sheets as reminder! Hehe, like U said you like to do
Re: Sheets vs Memory
I don't have a problem using sheets as a reminder. BUT, I don't like sight reading very much, almost the same stuff as using a sheet as a reminder when you're looking at a sheet to remind you about what notes to play in case you forget. So I'd have to go with using my memory, hands down.
Re: Sheets vs Memory
I use the sheets as a reminder while playing. There are a few songs though (simple) that I read while playing. But yea, I mostly use sheets to remind me

Re: Sheets vs Memory
Ah. I see we got our 1 on Prefering sheets as reminder.
How I define sightreading and prefering a sheetreminder
Sightreading: To get the sheets and play it without having played the piece before.
SheetReminder. The you play it trough so that you know how its played But yuo dont want to use so much time perfecting things that you NEED the sheets to get trough!
I cant do any of them I can make grade 1, 2 and 3 songs by sightreading so yu recognize what song it is BUT I cant play it nice at all!! Maby some grade1, i dont know

Re: Sheets vs Memory
I use my memory, mostly because I dont use sheets, I use digital piano rolls when I practice... And I usually like knowing a song as good so I can just sit down,
and just play the song without having to look at something... ( is it just me, or was that broken english ^_^ )
I feel kinda free when I dont have to look at something. I like to be free, no sheets or tabs, just me, my memory and my instruments...
When I think about it, it's kinda weird how my brain actuall memorize something, and then I can play it,
but I dont have to really think about it to make it happend...
Brain is an amazing thing

Re: Sheets vs Memory
I memorize all the pieces I learn.
However, I still place the sheet in front of me while playing, to remind me of the dynamics of the piece.
Depending on how often I play a particular piece, I eventually get the dynamics memorized too.

Re: Sheets vs Memory
Yes i do the same, i memorize the piece and i use the sheet to guide myself on the Dynamics but i mostly memorize the dynamics as well so i dont exactly play while having a music sheet in front of me
