Definition of Improvisation
I just wanted to post this up so people would know the definition of an improvisation
improvisation
a performance given extempore without planning or preparation
improvisation
a creation spoken or written or composed extemporaneously (without prior preparation)
here's the link http://www.wordreference.com/definition/improvisation
If you prepare at all or start with any idea of what you're going to do, than it is not an improv
up until maybe like 5 seconds before you sit down, you could call that an improvisation.

Re: Definition of Improvisation
True as written
Hehe, I guess My improv cind of made you create this Improvedefenitiontopic. But, then I can asure you that my improv was made up on the spot, I didnt even know I was going to play an Octaveimprov, it just happend. Only thing I had been practicing was the scale. =)
And actually, you got to have some knowledge to do a improv. If you fex dont know scales or how to transpond from scales, your improvisation will suck.
Good improvisors got the theory down to their skelleton. And that is important to do a good improv!

Wiki -
"An improvisor could start from no overall structure, and merely explore familiar and unfamiliar patterns and shapes. Or he could prepare an outline ahead of time, one which might not restrict him to a harmonic or melodic progression, or on the other hand, create or prepare the outline on the spot."
"Generally, improvisation is prepared for via the theory.."
Translated by me from Norwegian Wiki -
"Alot of musicians improvise when they play. Wich means that they havnt planed exactly what notes to play before thy start, But they often improvise acourding to a given chordprogression."
"Improvisation means that not everything is prepared, but improvisation DEMANDS preparing. For a musician got to know about scales, chords, genres, riffs, rythmical patterns, melodys, and harmonys. Ex: If you can improvise in jazz, it does Not mean you know how to improvise classicaly"
"Mozart improvised often in his aera, and they often had improveduels. Often a given melodyline or someone in the audience whistled a melody that they used to guide their improvisation."
"Pianist in the classical eare often prepared, and practiced spesificaly on how to improvise"
Well, what Im trying to say is that Improvisation isnt just sitting down at the piano and playing without any knowledge. There Are alot of preparation to do, and alot of practice ++ to be a good improvisor.
