Ian Parker's 9' Steinway Concert Grand
This was the first Steinway I ever played, also the first 9' grand I've ever played on. It's owned by Ian Parker, but Mr Edward J Parker let me have a go on it when i had a trip down there. It was AMAZING, the base was just INCREDIBLE so deep and resonating, you could feel it vibrate your whole body shaking you to the very core. The treble was SO great so clean, clear and not ear piercing either. The action was so well balanced very even, you could play the softest soft sound you can imagine and the loudest loud sound you can imagine, it has such a broad spectrum of sound, it felt like being able to paint with all the colors of a rainbow. Just INCREDIBLE I'll never forget it! I'm so grateful to Mr Parker for letting me try it out! I didn't even ask! He just opened it up and asked me to play something for him!

Shiny

as far as I know, I've never seen a grand piano in real life before.... that tends to make this a bit more shiny.

As far as grand piano's go this one way up there at the top of the food chain. It's one of the top kind money can buy. It was used by the Berlin Philharmonic as their piano for over 7 years, so that's saying something!Filius Nullius wrote:as far as I know, I've never seen a grand piano in real life before.... that tends to make this a bit more shiny.

I wish you had a video clip to go along with the picture; although your reaction to the experience in your "vaction vlog" speaks well to the sense of awe thats inspired.

Me too. And the only acoustics I've ever played on are an old detuned upright in my Uni's chaplaincy; and my new teacher's Kemble.
I'd give anything to play on a Steinway!!

You'd give ANYTHING to play on a steinway? How about your right hand? hehe, that would be ironic hey? give your right hand to play an instrument you need your hands for? mwuwhahaha...lol I'm joking of course, but yes it was SO amazing, I'm afraid my camera wouldn't do the sound quality justice though. You wouldn't hear the deep bass rumbling every organ in your body or all the beautiful over tones resonating of the sound board through a 1 mm crappy microphone. But when you're there...it's AWESOME...

Hehe... I just imagined that; yeah, my right hand.
But my statement was metaphorical...
I'd love to play on a Grand -as I haven't really been awed by both uprights I've played on.

I've played on several concert grands. I also really liked this 8.5" kawaii. It had a really rich and warm tone, wonderful action to. The steinway I played was German, and the German Steinway are much much better than the American ones.
