What is this semi-circle-dot symbol?

At the end of this piece I'm learning there is a symbol. I recall learning about this symbol back in grade school, but it is escaping my memory.

At the end there is a little semi-circle (shaped like a bowl) with a dot in it, below the bass clef. Then a few notes later there is another one of these semi-circles (shaped like an upside down bowl) with a dot in it, above the treble clef.

Hi, it means you should play a little slower right before the note its over in many cases, like a Rit. and most important, Hold that note as long as you feel is correct based on how you have played the piece. Dont hold to long of course, but extend the note value! This is often used at ends of piece for you to drag the ending a bit, but also sometimes used on notes in a piece or to end a part of a piece!
