For left hand you hold down that note that looks like E (whole note) and play the rest with some other finger, like play E with thumb, keep it down for whole duration and play A with pinky...

Hi erianne ..i think my advice would be to learn a bit more about these notes on the theory side b4 u tackle them and it will be much easier for you to play there are lots of notation dictionaries ...which will explain these ..check out the forum for these there are a lot about ..but in my opinion it is better to learn about these first or pick simpler songs to begin with ...short cuts or simplifying are not the real answers ...btu this is only my opinion Smile

by the way, how about this...
Real Face (note question) Nana11

correct me if i'm wrong...
the blue circles are what i need to sustain
so what i need to play are D/D/D/B,G/sustain/E/sustain /E/E/E

how 'bout the red circle?
C#/A#/F/F/F/F

tell me if the notes are not correctly arrange

You need to play the first three d,f,b all at once, but hold the f & b for three and a half beats, then play the other d's then into the E chord at the end of the bar.

P.S.: When you play the E chord, you will hold the top notes f & b while playing the remaining E's and so on for the final bar .
I don't know how well i explained it but hope it helps Smile

In music every notes that come above each other are to be played at the same time, in a chord. Separate stems don't change that rule, and just mean separate voices, as if two person were singing or playing, each of them reading only one voice. Like in a choir for example.

The small notes on the first sheet obviously are optional notes (i.e. another possible version of the piece.) so you might just ignore them.

Oh, and on your last example the "F" is an "F#"; I think you knew it but just wanted to be sure Wink
