Fingers/Wrist Exercises. Empty Fingers/Wrist Exercises.

Post by zeroflash Sun Apr 27, 2008 5:05 am

As well as any good pianist, our fingers and wrists need to be flexible and strong. Very Happy I'd like to share some exercises I do as warm up before and after playing. For me it releases tension. Very Happy (much like warming up for a workout)

A. Put both arms straight forward with both hands hanging down.
B. Close both fists and rotate them 8 times (either direction)
C. Open both hands and pull 'em up (the gesture would look like "STOP", fingers pointing up) Stretch for 5 seconds!!!
D. Finally, Put your arms down and wiggle/shake it! Very Happy
E. Repeat A-D for about 3-4 times. You're done!

Hope this helps those aching wrists/fingers. ^_~

Thanks for the advice Smile
Piano can be quite a workout so warming up is important all times.
Actually my wrist hurts because of arthritis, that is something you need to live with, I know the drill no complaint from me.

Oh and I really like your quote Smile

No problem at all!! Very Happy Kind hurt myself waaay to many times playing and I needed the stretch before playing. Smile Yeah, it's a given that it really hurts most of the time right at the moment when you're already enjoying the momentum. Very Happy

PS:
@maggie
My quote from a former politician here. It was 7 years ago in a radio station. It really hit me. It's the reality. Very Happy

@Andrew

I got a friend who actually crack her finger bones' joint as stretching.It looks painful, I wonder whether it also actually help u stretch ur fingers further or make it more flexible. Like yoga, juz that it's on fingers.
