My Favorite Gift
All of my life, I wanted to play the piano. As a very young girl, I would sit next to my friend while she played. My Grandpa would entertain us with some rag time music he played by ear. We did not have money for lessons much less a piano.
I am not musical, cannot sing although when in school, Choir was my favorite subject. My favorite part of church was the singing part...Those poor folks that sat near me.
A few years ago, my husband ask me what I wanted for Christmas. My favorite answer is "I don't care" but I for some reason I said.." I want a keyboard. Just a small cheap one, one that I can learn some notes on." Hmmm should have known that he doesn't do stuff half way. He was at his favorite computer shop and asked the geek in there. He sent him over to the music store and told him to get a full size piano keyboard. So now I have my precious digital electric piano.
It definitely isn't fancy, but it definitely gives me so much pleasure. My poor family has to listen to me..awww. sometimes I put the headphones on.
Now comes the lesson part. I got on line and started researching. Figuring I could learn enough to play some from a book. I found a book that was recommended by many people. I can't remember right now who's it is, but it did get me started. And there is a CD so that you can hear the songs played as you practice them. But still you need a real person interpreting what you read.
I could read music a little from when I was in Choir way back in junior high...So lots of stuff came back to me...but there is so much more to learning music besides where the notes are on the staff.
My new obsession with Twilight is what led me to Andrew and through him many other sites to help us. I was on Youtube getting my Twi Fix of the day. And I had been trying to find the sheet music for Bella's Lullaby. And you know one of Andrew's videos was in the playlist. I watched it and thought WOW...and of course that led me to his website and then here...
Oh and I hear only out of one ear, so that even makes it harder for me to hear the notes right...but as long as I can see the music, I can practice until I get it right....lol
Thank you so much for all the support we get here and for Andrew.

Wow, nice story =) And if you don't mind me asking, why can you only hear from one ear?

Re: My Favorite Gift
I don't mind at all. If it get's too long, you can just stop reading
In April 1999, I woke up fine as ever. Went to work(noisy factory, but I wore my ear protection). It seemed to be noisier than usual, but they were doing some welding on the assembly line close to us. Doing some refitting for that line...By the time I got home, I heard nothing from that ear except some very loud "swhooshing"...I could not hear the dial tone on the telephone. I saw my doctor...He treated me for an inner ear infection...Duh...didn't help the 1st,2nd, or 3rd time...Sent me to a specialist who said.."Good news, you can live a fantastic life hearing out of only 1 ear...But sent me to a Special Specialist...Did an MRI to rule out tumor on the ear...NO tumor on the ear..but in the middle of my brain. No connection. Virus probably attacked my ear nerve. But was lucky I lost my hearing to find this tumor in the middle of the brain. Good news, Brain Surgery, to take just a little piece of it out, not cancer, but Schwannoma. Was able to GammaKnife with little side effects...and that is the end
Told you it was long. So I am very lucky to have lost my hearing, cause the schwannoma would have continued to grow around the nerves in the cavernous sinus. I could have lost my sight...
