Intermediate Pianist?
Why I'm attributed as an Intermediate Pianist at the right side below my name? I guess this has to do with the number of posts? But it is misleading, because I'm still a raw beginner. Maybe would be better, if everyone could choose the level themself in the profile.
Re: Intermediate Pianist?
Yeah, its all about the posts! But its just a fun thing, nothing to serious other than giving a title to the effort you have done on the forum. Personally I dont see the problem, but this must be something Andrew handle^^
Re: Intermediate Pianist?
Thomas is just annoyed because hes just a moderator and not a piano anything!

Re: Intermediate Pianist?
And he would be right, because he plays really good:

and this only after one year
From other forums I know it as junior member, member, senior member etc. But maybe I'm just too old to understand such fun: I've started electronic communication with acoustic couplers and terminal programs in BBS systems many years ago

Re: Intermediate Pianist?
Geez, I just watched the video of thomandy's progress (thanks for the link Frank). I am particularly amazed at how you (thomandy) play the Turkish March after only 8 months of playing! I have only played for about a month, but I already know that if I was to play like that after 8 months, it would be nothing short of a miracle LOL. You must be very gifted, and that's wonderful to see.
I'm off to a late start (I'm 54), so getting the fingers to obey my commands is a little tougher for me, but if I can learn to play like that, even if it takes me a lot longer to get there, I'll be very happy
Thanks for sharing.

Re: Intermediate Pianist?
Yeah Thomas really is an inspiration, makes you wonder how much he practiced and with what methods to gain so much distance in such a short amount of time.
I'm 19 Jytte and my fingers don't always obey me either but the more you practice the more responsive they get! Things I couldn't manage when I started early yesterday I can do now and throughout the day I'm getting faster and more instinctive!
I even heard that away from the piano your body is creating extra nerve endings and strengthening your finger muscles for next time! So being at the piano practicing isn't the only time you are improving!

Re: Intermediate Pianist?
So true! I practice many hours every day, and get a tremendous sense of accomplishment when I play a piece that I couldn't play a few days before.
I also picked up on a little thing Andrew mentioned: that you can practice in your mind. When I'm in bed or in the car (not driving LOL), I can picture myself playing whatever little piece I'm working on at the present. And that actually helps too.
I also found that I can practice the rythm of tunes on my long walks (I have a big dog). In the middle of the woods, my humming and odd hand movements won't raise any eyebrows ha ha.

Re: Intermediate Pianist?
Haha, sounds awesome! I'm often humming Ode To Joy and this Sonatina whenever I leave my piano for a break! So I guess I don't ever not have music in my head!
And you be careful about odd hand movements in the woods and talking/humming to yourself... if anyone did see you, well, they'd think you were crazy. Oftentimes psychotic killers like classical music, especially when they are geniuses themselves, like Hannibal Lecter, even though hes only in film.

Reminds me of the joke of seeing someone walk into a spider web from a distance. Of course you can't see the spider web:

Re: Intermediate Pianist?
Hey, at least it is better than being a newbie. Anyways, forum titles are mostly just for the lolz and fun of it so nothing to sweat over.
