Who's your piano hero?
Any piano hero/es heroine/s (hate to be politically correct LOL!)?
I'm new here and I thought I'd drop this question for all of us to get to know each other better.
I'm really into classical and jazz when it comes to piano, but I virtually like any kind of music. But the only music that can make me wake up in the mornings with a big big smile on my face is Hiromi Uehara. It's my cup of tea... or coffee I should say .. need some instant energy in the mornings you see...
Some clips with her featuring live:

What about you? Which is the music style that really defines you? BTW... do you play any other instruments besides the piano?
Best,
Elena.

Re: Who's your piano hero?
I enjoy almost every genre of music and I have a lot of favorites, but I listen to a lot of House music, Classical and Jazz when I'm playing Piano, and a lot of Hip-Hop and R&B. I love Electronic music and I certainly love Classical and Jazz, it really depends on my mood and what I feel like listening to.
My favorite Classical pianist would probably be Sergei Rachmaninoff even though he's also a composer, and my favorite Classical composer would be Frédéric Chopin. My favorite Jazz pianist and composer for Jazz is Duke Ellington.

Wow, I have to say i'm impressed with Hiromi Uehara, She looks SO happy when she's playing, it looks like so much fun! She's already a hero of mine now that i saw one of her videos ^_^
Umm, My favorite composer is Chopin for classical music, and Also i LOVE nabou Uematsu he's one of my all time musical heros.
I was a big fan of V. Horowitz because he focused on the stories inside playing, he didn't care if he hit the right notes so much, just that he connected with his listeners I think that's the most important thing, and I love his recordings.

Re: Who's your piano hero?
.....Nobuo Uematsu, he is definetly my favorite composer ^^
As for classical music and that stuff, I listen mostly on Beethoven, Bach and Pachelbel....
My piano "hero" got to be Jordan Rudess, I got this album where he play's together with my guitar "hero" John Petrucci,
and together they sound great, never heard piano and guitar so connected....
Jordan Rudess
John Petrucci
I tend to listen to everything, depending on my mood, from hip hop to death metal.... And I love 80's music.
Right now I play a keyboard connected to a synthesizer and my brothers guitar,
and I got a recorder that I played when I was a kid...

After looking at this little clip with him I am a Jordan Rudess fan too I bet he could play Liszt as a pro
I am IMPRESSED.
Well maybe it is boring but my big time favorite classical composer is Chopin.
If I could reach the level how Vanessa Carlton and Tori Amos plays piano I would be VERY happy
I love Michael Nyman
Oh and if I want to be cheered up I watch Lang Lang playing Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody No 2
I have a TV recorded version (that is a little more enjoyable)
For 10 years I thought that I played the flute but now everyone seems to like the name recorder In my dictionary both of them means the instrument I played, go figure.
Although I dont think I ever listened to death metal I agree with VictorCS on listening everything ( at least once )
Re: Who's your piano hero?
He's more of a keyboard player than a pianist, but it's got to be Rick Wakeman! For me he is the greatest, and his compositions are wonderful too!
Oh, and I like Jordan Rudess too
For some actual "pianists", I like listening to Horowitz. I can't explain but it seems he adds a special touch to the music when he plays, and it just sounds amazing!

Re: Who's your piano hero?
I've heard of Jordan Rudess before and I agree with you, he's amazing! Oh and, Maggie, I recently watched The Piano and some of the pieces that she's playing in the movie are really touching and emotional.
To change this post up a bit, here's one of my current favourite Deep House tracks:

I just edited my post because the youtube tag is being a little buggy, and it's not letting me post more than two videos. The other two are available on youtube, but somehow when I tag them here on the forum they don't appear. Anywho, I posted two of my faourite House tracks anyway, so check them out. I'll post the other two videos which are Rachmaninoff's Concerto 3 performed by Vladimir Horowitz and one more House track that I wanted to tag. As for now, I'm heading to bed cause I'm REALLY tired. Night Maggie... Oh and... check out the videos, I'm in love with both of those tunes at the moment, they're pure soulful deep house. The first video isn't the song's music video, it's just a video a guy made here in Toronto inside our subway lines, the rest of the video is Downtown, Toronto and how it looks, you might find it interesting. Enjoy!

Yoko Shimomura, a VG music composer just like N. Uematsu. She's well known as the composer for the Kingdom Hearts series
