Trying to learn a new song
Andrew, I'm trying to learn this new song, but Its been giving me alot of trouble.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBFXJw7n-fU
Its Avril 14th by Aphex Twin. I realise that after awhile some of it does become impossible to play, but that's only about the last 20 seconds. I even downloaded the sheet music, it either complicated or I have not got my head around sheet music yet
I did watch an instructional video on Youtube, but its very hard to follow and the only one up there
Any tips or ideas? Thanks.

Re: Trying to learn a new song
to be totally honest, I actually don't have much useful advice since, I don't know the piece, can't see any sheet music, and don't know exactly what you're having trouble with (since i'm not physically there).
i'm sorry i can't help more than that.

Re: Trying to learn a new song
Thats okay. I don't know what I was expecting anyway!
Its a very nice song though.

Keep Practicing & Practicing, Don't Give UP

Think that : I'll Make it ..
And as Victor Said take a Piece that fits You ..
I'm not a Pro. to say this But I have Faced the same Problem ..

Re: Trying to learn a new song
what a cool, mellow song!! thanks for sharing.
I also find learning new music slow and frustrating. One thing that keeps me going is thinking back to a piece that I can play really well now but how difficult it was when I was learning it. Then you know it's only a matter of time before you crack the new piece
This particular piece has a very distinct melody and fairly simple left hand part. I would practice the left hand part, first few bars very slow, over and over again until comfortable, then try adding the right hand melody - again only a few bars and very slow. Stay calm and remember that in time you WILL get it if you persevere... good luck!

Re: Trying to learn a new song
Never try to play both at the same time....
maestoso here does left hand first it seems, I usually prefer to start with my right, then add the left.
I usually practice a few bars with my right, then add a few left bars when I can play the right without looking at the sheet.
It's all about what you like the best, left or right.....

Re: Trying to learn a new song
I actually did something different the other day. I learned all 91 bars for the right hand day 1. The next day, i didnt mind learning the lefthand first, but I added it right away. That spared me some time for sure. So I got down 91 bars, lefhand and righthand And contected them in 2-3 hours. I guess I spared 1 hour or so by doing this right away. Usually I do like Vic and learn both hands separatly, then adding and adding untill im done.
