Hello from Japan :)
Hi there!
I'm Lin from Oita, Japan (I'm not a Japanese though..)
I learned piano for the first time when I was 6 years old, but due to my laziness, I quit after a few months. Now I totally regret it If only I continued... *sigh*
But anyway, I'm going to re-learn piano again, and hopefully it's not too late for me. With Andrew's videos and your supports, I hope I can do it
I just bought a Yamaha keyboard and it's awesome. Too bad I can only play bits at the moment. Uhh.. I can't wait till I can play real songs on it~~ Preferably, gospel songs and songs from my favorite anime, Naruto
So, I guess that's it for my introduction now. Let's do our best together~~
Thank you.
-lin-
NB: Is there anyone from Japan here? Or anyone who loves anime?

Thank you for the fast reply, Thomandy
I never played Nintendo, XBox, or games like that before in my life *can you imagine that?*, simply cos I don't have it, and my parents didn't allow me to play games too But yeah, they have lots of wonderful music in it
Currently, I'm watching Andrew's videos on Youtube and gonna start practice after that. Btw, it's 11:27 PM here
Yeah, anime is totally cool What anime are you watching, CripKilla?? *grin*

Hey Lin!
Welcome to our community here! I'm glad to have you on board! If you've got the drive the determination and the discipline you WILL be able to learn piano ^_^ it shouldn't take you overly long either. A great example is Thomas! He's been doing AMAZING! He's learned so much and progressed so quickly, he only started in febuary and he's already an intermediate level, VERY good!
^_^ I've seen people play piano and take lessons for 6-7 years and not be as good as Thomas, so he's just dedicated! ^_^
If you'd like to learn piano that quickly, i'm sure if you put your mind to it you can as well!
Take care, I look forward to reading future posts from you!
ALSO! I like anime, i've seen a few of them myself, my favorite would probably be initial D, or maybe GTO, I also liked Fate Stay Night ^_^ Have you seen any of them?

Re: Hello from Japan :)
Thank you for the warm welcome, Andrew
Wahh.. how did Thomas did it? Here I only learn from your videos and tutorials from my keyboard. Did he learn by himself too? If yes, tell me some tips pleaseee
Last night I had my practice, and I realized that my fingers were so stiff. I tried playing some chords from my keyboard lesson books and end up straining my fingers cos the position of the chords are *weird*. Guess I have to learn more, rite~~
Haha.. Nice to know that GTO here is quite popular~ I've heard about Initial D and FSN, but haven't got the chance to actually watch it. Someday I will
Later then **
*off to school*

Re: Hello from Japan :)
First of all Andrew: WOW, Tnx alot for those cind words
Thats a great motivation for me, and a great compliment comming from you!!
Yeah then to your question, as you might know by now: I am Thomas hehe
Well, I started out slow I guess, just learning songs and reading theory.
Then I stumbled upon thise videos of Andrew and therefor found the forum. And first of all the forum has helped me alot. And of course the videos, hehe I practice scales, use metronome, do hanon from time to time, and study performances on youtube of the songs Im learning. I try to at least practice on hour a day.
Well thats my formula

Wow.. thank you for the tips, Thomas
Hanon... uh.. I remembered my piano teacher made me practice the Hanon and it was *boring* But, yeah.. now I admit that it is necessary
So, do you have any song you can recommend to a beginner like me? and where can I get it too, if possible?
Thanks before

Look up the Sheetmusic-topic.
https://afpa.hooxs.com/general-piano-discussion-f4/sheet-music-sources-on-the-internet-t50.htm
There are lots of links, especially on the first page. Hm.. Im not sure what you should learn first. I started on Love Shine a lighe before an easy Canon... Before I started Fur Elise - Complete version and victors piano solo and some other smaller pieces!
But that Easy Canon is a nice beginner piece.

Wow.. glad to hear that!
Yeah, kana is quite difficult, but you'll get used to it after living here for a few years, like me
I'm still struggling for sightreading

Hello KlutzSY
Yeah, come here~~ It's heaven for anime and j-drama lovers, like us
Are you planning to enter a Japanese university?
Hiragana and katakana are easy once you memorize them I was like you too before, but living here for 3 years can do wonder
The difficult one is kanji *sigh*
Btw, how's your piano lesson going??

Re: Hello from Japan :)
actually, i might be going next year, along with my frens from school during school vacation. Any recommendation?
Hmmm, japanese unniversity, i'm not so sure about what courses they offer over there. I would go if they teach animation. I'mtrying to get into the course over here.
well, i actually do self-teaching so my piano isn't exactly good. The tempo is chaotic. I've learnt last song by gackt but some parts are too fast, can't catch up, so i'm replaying it to familiarize. What about you, do you take piano lessons over there?
U're studying at a University over there?

Oh, you're coming here to travel? There are lots of awesome places to visit here Just make sure to prepare your money coz everything's so damn expensive here Other than that, just enjoy~~ Recommendation? Of course, Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto will be at the top of the list
There are some universities which teach animation, but I don't really know much about it. I can't even draw to save myself So, I really admire people who can draw *and people who can play piano too*
Now I'm just teaching myself with Andrew's tutorial videos and piano lessons from internet. I've learned piano when I was 6 years old, but it was just a really basic lesson. Hmm.. self-teaching can't beat a living teacher sitting directly beside you Wish I could have someone to teach me directly though.. Really want to be able to play Naruto's songs *Yes, I'm addicted to Naruto*
Yup, I'm studying at a university here. If everything goes well, I'll graduate soon this September It'll mark my 4th year in Japan~~

Thanks for the recommedation. Yup, the things there are like thrice the cost here , but i got some savings and i'll most probably live at places that provides budget sleeping stay. I'm going to live with one meal a day cuz the money would most probably be spent on buying stuffs.Haha
I'm quite good with drawing, or so my friends say. But if you ask for real life drawing like a lake with trees and wooden cabin, i'll end up with a fountain, forest and mansion somehow. I once saw a pianist who play as if her fingers are liquid flowing over the piano, truly amazing. I think it's Fantasie Impromptu in C sharp minor composed by Chopin. I like the starting part the best.
Hmm, sometimes i would gather with some a friend whose also crazy about piano to practice and we teach one another, it might be not as effective as a teacher but there are some improvement. I suppose what we lack, we make up with practice. Naruto's songs is quite good but i'm more of a rock , jrock & classical music fan. Ahaha, i'm addicted to so many anime and manga that i join the japanese cuture club just for it.
September! Congrats to you in advance. University students are in demand now. What are you going to do after graduation? What is your major? I'm a freshman in college and i'm majoring in Creating of moving images which consist of film production and animation. We only get to choose either one when we're in our 2nd year so i'm halfway towards reaching my goal. It was fun, We've learnt creating story, Ideation and Drawing Essentials, Basically, we're only learning basics on all aspects regarding it for 1st year.
What songs are you learning now?
