College...
Hi guys...
I want, first, congratulate Andrew for the opportunity...
I started doing classes in the beginning of this year, and I wish, in some point
in the future, get a bachelor degree in Music...
But here, in Brazil, the colleges have tests for you to join...
It´s like a big test about everything you have studied insofar...
Besides the "high school" (here is a little different) disciplines, you have to do a
music test, which is: a musical perception test and play some songs, such as:
1st test:
1) BACH, Johan Sebastian. Invenção a 3 vozes. (invention in 3 voices)
2) Sonatina a escolher entre os compositores Friedrich KUHLAU, Muzio CLEMENTI, Anton
Wolfgang Amadeus MOZART, ou Ludwig van BEETHOVEN. (sonatine - choose between those authors)
2nd test:
Mandatory:
1) Um movimento vivo de sonata clássica. (classical sonata - 1 movement)
2) Peça a escolher entre: (choose between:)
• SCHUMANN, Robert – Álbum para a Juventude. (Album to the youth)
• TCHAIKOVSKY, Peter Ilich – Álbum para a Juventude. (Album to the youth)
• GRIEG, Eduard – Peças Líricas. (Lyrical Plays)
• MENDELSSOHN-BARTHOLDY, Felix– Canções sem palavras. (Songs without words)
To be drawed:
3) Leitura à primeira vista. (first-sifht reading)
4) Peça de autor brasileiro. (brazilian author song - already known)
Sorry for the names of the songs in english...
And sorry for the poor english...
But the point is... I can study like 3 time a week, for 3 hours each.
In how much time will I be able to play those, to get at least a 6 in 10 rating?
I can wait... Not in a rush...
Thank you all guys,
And greetings.

Re: College...
Hi Miarelli...
Glad to have you here.
That is really a huge test, and, depending on how long before you start college, you might be able to play those pieces well enough for the test.
By "study", do you mean -"practice" or "have lessons"??
If its practice, then it might be better -for example- to practice an hour everyday instead; as it might be more helpful.
Maybe you could start a thread in the "where are you from?" board to tell us more about yourself.
BTW, your English is a lot better than my Portuguese... so no harm done
Welcome.

Re: College...
I would also tip you to devide your practicetime into smaller parts.
If you maneage to practice 2-3-4 times a day?! And play 10,15,30,45 and 60 min at a time. Its a really great thing to get more progress faster!! But if thats not possible.. .
I often sit for 10-15min several times a day, and every time im a littlebit better. If I sit for 2 hours i can practise more things or just play and enjoy.
When Im memorizing I can sit 1-2-3 houts, But if I practice, I never practice the same thing more than Max 30min... Decreases the chances for injuries aswell. But dont forget to practice SCALES
Those bricks will help you learn the pieces Much faster.
Good Luck! =)

Re: College...
Thanks for the tip...
But it´s impossible, once it´s not my piano...
I "borrow" it, so I have to stay there as much as I can...
But I´ll get one, next year, I hope...
See you.
