How young can we start and how?
My grandson Dylan is 2 1/2 years old and though he can see now, the Dr. say he probably will not be able to see well enough to remain in school beyond 4th or 5th grade. If this happens, I have hopes that keyboard and/or piano may be a constant in his life when everything else is changing drasticly. I felt that perhaps now while he is able to see and while he is so busy learning and mimicing maybe it would be a good time to get started. Any input is welcome.

I am sure you can start as early as he is able to concentrate on the subject.
I saw many videos on youtube where 3 years old could already play little piece.
I found good videos which shows how a lady teaches a 3 years old girl..
So I would say if the kid wants to learn and you or anyone else can teach him than there is no obstacle for starting. Until 4th grade there is enough time for him to get to a very good level of understanding. Although I hope that the Dr might be wrong and he wont lose his eyesight, all the best
Re: How young can we start and how?
I agree with maggie, i think even by 3 years old your child should be able to start music. It would be benifical to get your child to clap back simple rhythmic patterns back to you. Kids can usually pick up copying a rhythm back that their parents do. Then you can show them that, a certain rhythm goes with this arrangement of notes.
But yea, if time is of the essence then I think you should try right away, if it was a normal case i'd say wait until your child turns 3 at least. But i think this is a special case.
I hope that helps!

I ask my teacher if how old should start playing piano and she said he/she needs to be 6 and learn how count and memorize the alphabets.
