Re: 12- Questions- PianoTrivia =)
Very nice thread thomandy. I'll start it off even though it's late and I'm really tired.
1. Probably a few weeks because of other stuff that kept me busy.
2. Rarely, I tend to at least play or touch the keys every day unless I really don't have time to even look at it.
3. 1-2 hours is enough unless I'm really concentrating on learning a particular piece.
4. I usually learn new pieces after I've learned the current one well enough.
5. No, not always.
6. Not too sure about that since I'm constantly learning different pieces.
7. I think about playing piano almost every day, and when I'm thinking about the songs I play or listen to then I usually take out my iPod and listen to them as soon as possible.
8. This is a really good question, and to be honest I've actually cried once after listening to a song when my aunt passed away. Other then that, playing an emotional piece is very touching but I rather feel and love the song instead of crying.
9. Probably Chopin and Beethoven's music.
10. Sometimes, it depends on what frustrates me. And when I get frustrated I usually just stop practicing and do something else.
11. Listen to their music.
12. Good question. Music is what gave me potential and inspiration to play the piano and to start this journey. I really believe that music is part of your soul. You live with it, and you die with it.

Re: 12- Questions- PianoTrivia =)
Great that you kicked it of Jordan=)
1:What is the longest period you have been away from the piano??
1week in febuary, didnt have motivation to learn new songs, so I just took a break actually witout thinkin' so much about it then...
2: Do often do 1 or 2 daybreaks from the piano?
Hm.. Nope, after I got my piano, yesterday is my first daybreak. -7mai :p
3:How long can you sit and practice, play and enjoy the piano?
I usually break practice down, but I can sit from 1 to 3 or 4 hours with smaller onlinebreaks or somthing.

Moonlight sonata, canon, fur elise ++
10:Do you ever get REALLY frustrated when practicing the piano?
Sometimes when MY DAMN fingers arnt cooperating with me :p
11:If yes in 10, what do you do about it?
Get as far away as possible :p hehe
12:Who inspired you to start this journey? =)
I was on a gathering in the Comunity, and this young 14year old boy played 2songs on the piano at the very end. Never seen this boy before in my life, and even if I allways liked pianomusic, I never listend to it or had really anything to do with it, untill 2 month AFTER I heard this boys performance. This I couse "Elkjøp" - had a sale on keyboards. I didnt really buy on impulse, it took me a couple of days, couse 300$ is still alot for a student. But, I just had to... Then I got bitten by the bug as we say here in Norway. And 3 months later, I outgrew my keyboard, and the very day after I saw Andrews Youtubelesson: Battel of the boards, I looked up shops that could give me a fair prize, and bought my new "grand" piano
So that 14year old boy, who dosnt know me, and I dont know him, is responsable for a new passion in my life

Re: 12- Questions- PianoTrivia =)
1:What is the longest period you have been away from the piano??
Prolly a year or 2, when I didnt play much.
2: Do often do 1 or 2 daybreaks from the piano?
I dont plan breaks, I play some here and there.
3:How long can you sit and practice, play and enjoy the piano?
Last year when I practiced Canon Rock I used to practice for 5-6 hours.
4:How often do you learn new songs??
Whenever I hear a new one I wanna learn.
5: Do you allways complete learning those songs?
Mostly I do learn 4-5 bars before I quit and hear a new song ( shame on me, but I have completed a few )
6:What is your greates achevement?(songs)
I dont really know, what's a great achivement? A short song? a long song? complicated? simple?
Or just that it's a piece you feel you can play with your heart?
I think To zanarkand is the song I could've playd infront of audience, as I can play it however I wanna play it.
Fast, slow, mad, sad, etc.... It's playd everyday...
7:How often do you think about the piano, or the songs you play/listen to?
Each time I hear a song I wanna play, I think that I'll have to practice it soon, several times a day.
8:Have you ever cryed, or gotten very emotional playing or listening to pianosongs??
I've just been pissed off when I cant play things correctly.
9:If yes on 8, what songs or pianists where to "blame"?
Me.
10:Do you ever get REALLY frustrated when practicing the piano?
Yes.
11:If yes in 10, what do you do about it?
I play harder and faster.
12:Who inspired you to start this journey? =)
I started when I was a kid, playing on my grandparents piano, I did actually compose and write down the notes back then when I was about 7 years,
then I got my own little keyboard when i was 9-10, learn a couple of rigthhand songs. When I was 14, they air some "radioshow" on TV, nrkmp3,
and they guy there was playing with synthesizers, and I wanted to make trance, so I bought my synthesizer.
It's fun to play with, but I havent really made a trance song yet. When I was 15-16 I got my first keyboard ( used ), Yamaha PSR-47, 61 keys, I'm still using today.
But it wasnt until last year when my brother got his guitar, and found "Canon Rock" - playd by funtwo. I couldnt play it on a guitar ( didnt know how to play a guitar ).
So I practiced this piece on my keyboard, and that's why I love playing music today. And I will continue, since it's fun. I usually play everyday.

1:What is the longest period you have been away from the piano? 2 months (went on a long summer vacation with no piano in sight)
2: Do often do 1 or 2 daybreaks from the piano? Before, very rarely, but now because of my tendonitious pretty much every week.
3:How long can you sit and practice, play and enjoy the piano? this question is depressing for me to think about...Well i USED to play and sit for about 4-5 hours daily, now it's somewhere around 30 minutes IF i'm lucky.
4:How often do you learn new songs?? I used to often, now i'm stuck on the same pieces due to lack of practise time
5: Do you always complete learning those songs? YES i ALWAYS complete what i start. Although you can never really FINISH a piece, you can just be satisfied with it. Art is never finished
6:What is your greatest achevement?(songs) Probably my greatest achievement song wise is Polonaise in A flat major. I had it SO good, note perfect, memorized, very clean, amazing voicing, wonderful dynamics steady tempo, great trills and articulations good pedaling, everything!
7:How often do you think about the piano, or the songs you play/listen to? Sometimes I get obsessed with the songs i'm currently learning and i hum them, while i walk around, but i have a very one track mind, whatever i'm doing i focus on like a lion stalking it's prey
8:Have you ever cried, or gotten very emotional playing or listening to pianosongs?? I've felt VERY VERY MOVED inside, to the point where i probably could've cried, but I haven't. I tend to try to hold the tears back
9:If yes on 8, what songs or pianists where to "blame"? Probably the most i've ever gotten choaked up is listening to Angela Play chopin's Barcarolle op 60
10:Do you ever get REALLY frustrated when practicing the piano? YES, not being able to practise like I used to pisses me off to no end! Other than that, i'm pretty calm Although sometimes when i'm learning a bach prelude & fugue I want to rip my hair out of my head
11:If yes in 10, what do you do about it? I just get up and take a deep breath
12:Who inspired you to start this journey? =) My mom! When i was 5 years old she asked me if I'd liek to learn piano, and i said yes mom!

Since you asked so nicely Hey
1:What is the longest period you have been away from the piano??
The last month when I didnt have too much time to play neither to learn any new pieces. But I cant tell exactly.
2: Do often do 1 or 2 daybreaks from the piano?
When I was diligently practicing I practiced every day, nowadays I just try to keep the bare minimum and play little before go to bed or while waiting for others in the formal living room.
3:How long can you sit and practice, play and enjoy the piano?
If I am not pressured with exams and other duties I can play 2-3 hours easily. (By the end usually my brain is screaming though mixing up notes and I know this is the point to stop.
4:How often do you learn new songs??
Wish I could learn a new song every week... my first bigger piece I learnt in 4 weeks. From that time on I did not have time to learn new. ( Today I made some preparation for a new one though... )
5: Do you allways complete learning those songs?
Many times I have songs I wish to play but dont have the skills ... after I find the ones which can work I start to learn them. So far I was quite faithful to the songs.
6:What is your greates achevement?(songs)
I did not really learnt too much songs so I can easily answer that question: Bach Minuet in G major.
7:How often do you think about the piano, or the songs you play/listen to?
Everytime I listen to the radio or music I wish to play, when Im actually learning a song I think about it pretty much all day.
8:Have you ever cryed, or gotten very emotional playing or listening to pianosongs??
Listening to pianosongs are very moving, when Im playing it it is a whole different level. Concentration kind of kills being emotional.
9:If yes on 8, what songs or pianists where to "blame"?
Last time I got emotional on the Michael Nyman - The heart asks the pleasure first and partly the videoclip can be blamed too.
10:Do you ever get REALLY frustrated when practicing the piano?
Not really. I know when I get tired.
11:If yes in 10, what do you do about it?
12:Who inspired you to start this journey? =)
I always admired those who can play the piano. I played flute/recorder for over 8 years but my dream was to play the piano.
My grandfather has an electrical organ and he plays pretty good although he never learnt any music theory or sightreading. His son ( little younger than me ) learnt to play piano when I learnt the flute, I envied that.
He quit the lessons but he could still play pretty good. I just got to know it not long time ago that he actually never learnt the sightreading either, I guess he has similar talent in playing by ear as his father.
Why did not I inherited this? Well at least Im learning sightreading now
So the desire goes back to prehistoric times
The actually cause to start is a complex improvement. First of all getting married to a guy who has a 100 years old piano helped a lot. Poor piano was so neglected , barely anyone played on it. (Not counting 2,3 years old grandkids.)
Secondly at church sitting in the first row next to the pianist and staring at her hands how well she plays the hymns.
Thirdly I needed to choose an art class for my AAS degree... and in the catalog the only appealing class was piano for beginners. Everything fell into places and I could not avoid my fate
Many friends and my relatives who did not have piano teachers were extra inspiration for me... proving I can do it even if I cant afford a private piano teacher. Io behold here I am with a virtual piano teacher and many helping friends.

[color=red]I always admired those who can play the piano. I played flute/recorder for over 8 years but my dream was to play the piano.

You're lucky that you have a grandfather who's a musician and is still alive. My grandfather was also a musician, he played the Accordion and guitar. And guess what? he died. The only one I have left is my grandmother, who I live with. We're really close so it's going to be hard when she passes away. Anyways, besides that, I liked your answers.

He is actually not a musician ... he is a TV and Radio engineer he just enjoys music in his spare time.
I am lucky indeed he is turning 77 this year and he would still run after the girls
Actually the not too lucky part is that I live on the other side of the globe... but this summer I can visit him and who knows whether I will see him ever again after that... one great thing is that his son taught him to use the internet and we can sometimes talk a little.
I am very interested in the family history and I asked him about his childhood and he enjoyed telling me about it on thru MSN and he talked for 3 hours... ( after a while I realized I need to take notes so I would not forget what he says because I might not hear these stories again and I would like to tell them to my kids. )
His father, my great grand father had an accordion... my grandfather still have it (it is probably close to 100 years old) and my great grand played it while he lived.( probably he had not much idea about sightreading either, he was a taylor.)
I hope that your grandmother is in a good health and she will spend many more years with you. I wish she can see when you will have kids. It is such a blessing for them.
Grands are fantastic they know so many things about the past world, personal wise things it is worth all the time you can spend with them.
