Question about flexibility Empty Question about flexibility

Post by MissCams Wed Jul 14, 2010 10:52 pm

Alright so i'm pretty flexible, but I'm currently learning "A Thousand Miles" on the piano and i'm having problems with my right hand in the intro.

I'm having trouble going from B flat (with my fourth finger) to a Neutral B an octave lower (with my thumb)
I'm not saying I can't do it. I actually can, but If you actually know the song, you probably know that the intro is fast, so it's pretty easy to skip on a note. Besides that, the song is really easy for me, so it's sort of getting me pissed off Smile

Do any of you know what i should do to be able to reach those notes more easily when playing?

What i usually do before practicing this song (Or any song for that matter)
I put my hands under hot water for while
Do a few Scales and stuff

And usually i'm okay, but those two notes are getting me mad Razz

Thanks for the help!

The more scales and exercises you do, the more flexable your hand will become. If it's uncomfortable to reach, can't you just use the pedal and move your hand down a little?

Hanon is a good exercise for getting your fingers to stretch a little further. It helped me to be able to reach a ninth without it being as uncomfortable. Andrew has a lesson where he talks about Hanon.

Thanks for the help Wink ! yeah, Hannon is good, and i do it often, but those exercises don't really help stretching with an other finger besides your fifth one. I mean, they do help, but not as much.

I never went to far with them but they might help as you start to get further down the line with the exercises, not too sure. I think its one of those things that will just come. If you can only just reach things, then in time you will most likely learn to adjust your hands etc to play what you need to play.
