Funny bracket things!? Empty Funny bracket things!?

I don't have a picture of this so I'll have to describe it....A bracket a bit like the a capital L on its side with a number 1 and then a second with a number two above the stave anyone know what this is? If it helps it's on the 9th and 10th bar of Fur elise!! Sorry I've no picture.

I believe you're talking about an 8va? Although, i'm not 100% sure. But generally anything under that line will be played 1 octave higher than it is written. ^_^

Thank you, I'm not sure I described it well..I don't think it's an octave marking, it doesn't make sense in the music for that to be the case, but i stand to be corrected....It appears above the stave in bar 9 with a number 1 written underneath and then there's the symbol( can't remember what its called) to repeat the piece from the beginning. Bar 10 starts with another square bracket above it with a number 2 written underneath it this time....i haven't figured out how to paste images here;that's why I'm describing it!

Explanation:
Play until you get to the bar where the 1 is over, then repeat! But the second time you DONT play the bar where the 1 is over - SKIP THIS BAR and move on with the bar where the 2 is over!! Smile

First time: Bars 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9
Sec: Bars: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and -> 10, 11 ect

Ah, eureka!..thank you..that makes perfect sense..now if i could just figure out how to count those weird 32nd notes;). I've been reading musical theory for dummies which tells me not to worry about 32nd notes, because you'll probably never encounter them!!!
