What is your favorite Music Period?
Favorite Music Period
I prefer by far the Romantic Period!
Simply because this period contains my favorite composer such as Chopin and Debussy.
But what about you?

But what about you?

Re: Favorite Music Period
Great Poll
My favorite is also the Romantic Period
Not mainly because of the Composers, even though thats sort of a bi product. But how they composed the music. My Favorites are: Chopin, Liszt, Grieg and Beethoven! I know to little about Debussy ect
Also I dont really Know anything about the 20th centery and the Contemporary Period. Read(Red?) some about the 1900-1950.. But It seams that nowdays, there are so many directions that its hard to say something about this Period which we live in.
Now thats a New Lesson Idea for Andrew!!
What signifies PIANO music today! Rules, composers, known works that shows in a good fashion what the time or direction stands for ect ect
Well, its not the most Commercially Interesting Lesson Subject
But... At least an Idea right

Well said.
Nowdays music doesn't mean the same thing as the music in earlier period. It's more about money, voice changing, etc. It's kinda like 2 different arts.

Re: Favorite Music Period

Now, i'm not trying to be snobby or anything, but the classical era is believed to have ended in 1825 Beethoven died in 1827 so he was alive at the beginning and he was also primarily responsible for the movement towards romantic music, but he is considered a classical composer as many of his works were written in classical style. I do also love classical music as well, so I'd have to say my rank is
1 romantic
2 impressionistic (you should add that to your list as it is the music of debussy)
3 classical
Re: Favorite Music Period
I would second that..I've picked most of my learning pieces from this time....My ex-teacher liked baroque so I was learning some Muzio Clementi..however pretty much everyone in my family hates baroque..my children stick their fingers in their ears and slap my piano when I play Clementi (and no it's not my bad playing before you say it
), so I have to play baroque at very odd times of the day when husband and children absent...It's kind of weird to be playing piano in secret!
Oh and Claire de Lune is the first proper piece I learned in its entirety and what a cracker it is!

Re: Favorite Music Period
What a great poll this was! We should bring it back.
I couldn't pick a favourite though! As im a total Scriabin Fanatic I might say the 20th century, but I also love his early works which were late-romanticism
. I also love Beethoven and many other classical composers, as well as Chopin as well as many other romantic composers lol
Yeah, i'm not going to be able to pick a fav. It depends on my mood at the time
