Re: Money Issue :D
the price range for a:
Keyboard: $150-2,500
Upright piano: $1,000-10,000
Grand Piano: $10,000-150,000
You can get a pretty decent keyboard for around $800 usually (this is all in Canadian Dollars by the way)

Re: Money Issue :D
I paid 2000 canadian dollars ( aka in the middle of cheap and expensive ) for my digital piano. I do think this piano will follow me
untill I get my own house where I can have a grand, and that's several years vefore that will happend
For sure dont buy a grand or upright piano if you dont have room for it. And if you move around alot you might want a portable one that's not too heavy.
I do believe if sound will not be a problem ( not playin when the others are in bed, or having close neighbours ), an ordinary upright piano is the way to go,
especially if the house is big enough, and you are not gonna move from an apertment to another every now and then.
I do believe the best thing is to actually use a little money, never by the cheapest, but there is no reason in buying the most expensive either...
In most cases, this is why:
Very cheap: Bad quality
Cheap: Some are decent, but most is bad
Affordable: Usually good
Expensive: A higher class than affordable, but here its not much room for more improvement
Very Expensive: You get the very little gain compared to expensive
As the item gets more expensive, the quality and other increasments in the piano shrinks. So it's usually not very wise to buy the most
expensive if you dont just have the money and cant figure out what to spend them on.

That's exactly right, that's exactly my reasoning and the way I buy things. Although, usually if i'm serious about something I will buy things such as my camera with the features I need even if it costs alittle more.

I disagree to the last point :
Very expensive: You get instrument improved to the 'end' point, so much that they didnt really could make it more perfect/shiny so they add a lot of "usefull" things to the instrument. For example i would like to get something like korg oasis but " chip based" not " pc based" . Currently korg oasys have similar to pc hardware. . . .and linux operating system. Why the heck i need to pay for another PC with linux, another cd writer, and 14" touch screen colour display if i just want nice shiny keybord with dsp effects and equalizer?
@Victor, yes, if u buy the top class instrument for the " top class" price, itll have top class features never seen in that instrument before, that 99% of population wouldnt really use [ever]. As an example for that look at this FF* class instrument:
