Not sure if you are the only one, but it's my first time seeing something like this... Looks cool I kind of want to learn how to read it now will ask Andrew...

Re: Am I the only one?
I use Music Masterworks, it's a midi program that does all the basic stuff. Several other programs have piano rolls,
usually programs that are meant to mix electronic music.
Ever heard of player pianos? They use piano rolls to play the music...

Re: Am I the only one?
This Music Masterworks looks neat, I dont know it because it is not freeware and I usually collect freeware stuff.
So can you use your microphone to record any music and then it turns it into a midi plus sheet music? Like if you would record a Chopin could it analyse it precisely and make a sheet music out of it?
I was thinking if there is any program like that... I am not really good in playing music by ear but it would be nice to be able to play some of the melodies I like but I dont have sheet music for it.
Actually I just saw a player piano first in my whole life this week... I really got a kick of it... I was like kid in the candy store.
Now of course it is working with a palmtop like computer...
this roll thing is interesting... It would interesting to see how did they solve it in the "ancient" times...

Well theres a program called Sibelius, you can add any MIDI song into it and it makes it into correct sheet music =) I use it, it's neat!

Actually, I'm used to the piano rolls in Ableton Live, FL Studio, and CuBase, but I only use them when I'm producing. I don't usually use them to read while I'm playing piano. I prefer reading music the real way with sheets. If you're into composition, definitely try out Sibelius or Finale Notepad.
Re: Am I the only one?
Sibelius looks good, just to make my works look good, I should copy the data from guitar pro to Sibelius....
Offtopic:
I was struggling to get the right sound at the first end in my new melody,
but it seems I was able to make what I wanted today,
I've used a couple of days trying to make it possible to end the B part,
so I could merge the A part again....

Re: Am I the only one?
It's Piano Roll Notation. Used in a DAW (Digital Audio Workshop) that has a piano roll implemented into it, which most DAW's have (e.g. FL Studio, CuBase, Reason, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, etc.) all have piano rolls for producers to use while composing a melody, bassline, chords, or anything that has to do with notation. Piano Roll Notation is very simple and easy to work with, especially while using a MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) controller.

I know Sibelius I ve tried it and I was not really excited about. The reason because when I create any sheet music from a MIDI or by hand the notes are not appearing on the sheet... first I thought that if I would print it out it would appear... but nothing... how am I supposed to know which note is a whole note or half or any other? So as fast as I got excited about Sibelius that fast I stopped loving it.
I tried the MIDI to sheet music section. It is fun. How can I make MIDIs out of mp3s or wmvs? Because some of the music I would like is more likely in those extensions.
Re: Am I the only one?
Google for something like midi to mp3/wav, there are many programs, some free others not, I've personaly never used any though.

Actually I am thinking on the other way around... I know there are plenty of software - many of them free - which can convert midi to mp3 or wave...
But I am looking for something with makes MIDI from mp3 or other formats. The only one program I found is shareware... so I guess I just keep looking.
Re: Am I the only one?
Hum, I've personaly never seen any, but may I ask what is the purpose?

Re: Am I the only one?
If you wanna make mp3/wav/flac etc to MIDI, just forget it. These programs doesnt work. ( Yes, I've tried alot of stuff out there )
If you wanna make midi to mp3 it works, but the only time you wanna do that is if you wanna play them on your mp3 player.

The purpose is that there are many programs out there which translates the midi into sheet music... so if I find something I like and I can have it in midi that helps me to get the sheet music
Not that I would not have enough sheet music already
Re: Am I the only one?
That's a demanding thing. Melodyne's DNA engine might be able to do this, but were talking of hightech professional sound manipulation, so it probably will not be within the freeware range
