Minor scales, Just to be sure

Allright, I've learned Natural Major scales in the past few days and now I want to learn their minor counterparts. I think i know how they work but I'm not certain.

So just to be sure:
When I play a minor scale I play it in the same key as it's major counterpart right?
So C major's Minor (A minor) is played with all keys natural
and B major's minor, (G#Minor) is played with CDFGA raised
and so on

Is this correct or am I way off?

Im gonna jump on this, I just finished watching the lesson about this again. Sorry sorry if Im just reasking whats above - but I need to ask in my own way to be sure.

I was going to ask - Is Cminor the same scale as Amajor? But then I thougt no, because its not right?

Say I play Gmaj: G, A, B, C, D, E, F#, G.

Then Gminor/(Eminor?) natural would be played the same with the same notes raised? So E, F, G, A, B, C, D, E?

Harmonic: E, F, G, A, B, C, D#, E?

Melodic: E, F, G, A, B, C#, D#, E, (D, C, B, A, G, F, E.)

Did I get this right?

Is it called Gminor at all or is it just "Gmajors relative minor 'Eminor'"?

actually it's C minor and E flat major that are relitaves.

your e minor sccale isn't right because there needs to be an F# in there. Also with melodic you need to lower the 6 and 7th when on the way back DOWN.

Well if I picked the wrong scale ofc its wrong. My counting is wrong I guess. I counted three semitones down. From G thats E. Im gonna review it again. Haha.

I thought I did the building right even though I used the wrong keys.

Like melodic: UP->E, F, G, A, B, C#, D#, E, DOWN-> D, C, B, A, G, F, E.

I ran into some problems trying to figure out another scale after posting yesterday though, so I kinda knew something was cooking.

Im not sure where, but in the scalestopic there are a link to a site where every scale is, and you can both see the notes on the staff and the named for them. You should find that It shouldnt be to hard. That might help some

I think my problem was not skipping keys not in the scale. Andrew says just go 3 semitones down, but he does not add "in the scale you are playing". I probably should have 'known' that.


So to find the relative minor scale to a major scale you have to go down 3 semitones in the scale you are playing, and not just 3 semitones down on the piano in general.

I could probably find the list on how to play each scale and what scale is related to whom, but I enjoy the formulas alot so trying to learn those properly.
