Common mistakes to look for
I know when I started my teacher constantly correct me on a lot of things-from posture to hand position. So we should make a list on the common mistakes students do on practicing or in general as reminders. So I'll start of . =p
1. Bad posture.
2. Too close/far away to the piano
3. Bad hand/finger positions. (Too curled/flat)
4. Using solely the fingers on reaching for notes when you can make your arm move the fingers into position
5. Long nails (I'm guilty of this a lot even now =p)
6. Wrong fingering
7. Tension on arms or anywhere (Not relaxing enough?)
Add away~

Re: Common mistakes to look for
gah! you took away all the obvious answers!
8. Harsh tone too loud or not enough sound
9. Blurred pedal (using to much pedal, or not changing at proper time)
10. Unsteady rhythm
11. No attention to lifts at phrase ends
12. Not observing the style the piece was written in.
there that takes it up to a dozen ^_^ I could probably think of more if I sat and thought about it, but i'm not going to!

Re: Common mistakes to look for
Guilty of charge to number 8 and 9. But its comming along. I have two weeks of experience with a piano, and it is actually not so hard to keep the sound and pedal at a good level as I thought. I was always nervous about that before I bought it. But I guess Moonlight Sonata is a great what to tackle number 8
