Any easy rags?
I'm thinking about a summer project, and I'd really like to play ragtime, or some "easy" jazz!
Bearing in mind my music theory knowledge is that of a toddler, and I have no idea about jazz patterns, what could you suggest as an "easy" non-adapted piece?
Thank you

Re: Any easy rags?
When I think about rag I think about Joplin. His songs are really hard in their original version.
There is his most know compositions for free. I don't really know other rag composers except this one...

Re: Any easy rags?
Thanks Cripkilla, I checked that out and it is beautiful, I forgot to post you a reply, so careless of me. But in the end I wanted to be realistic and moved onto something easier. And added Bethena to my O.D.I.P. (One Day I'll Play) list (which is increasing by the hour LOL).
All the best

Yeah, I got som O.D.I.P's to Hehe... But one of them is going down as wee speek. I really look forward to post this new vid, but I wont do it before I am 100% ready this time. I posted Fur Elise to early. But againg, the response I got on that defenintly made me a better pianist... So I do not regret it
So what are your O.D.I.P's Elena?? And Crip? Do you got many on that list??
I got: Fantasie Impromtu, Maple Leafe Rag, Moonlight Sonata 3M i guess At leat of the classical type. Also got some Zeldapieces on top...
Re: Any easy rags?
Hehe well my ultimate goal is Chopin Prelude Op.28 No.24 in D minor:
Joplin's Search-Light Rag and maple lef; of course, Zelda 'Maintheme', Tetris Theme A ^^, Gymnopédies 1-2-3,Fur Elise ... Stuff like that
I would like also this song. It is easy but the solo is crazy!
Frozen Ray

Re: Any easy rags?
wow cripkilla those are some goals there but im sure you can do it i have a preeetty long O.D.I.P list myself but you can say a "checkpoint" per se of my life as a pianist is well being able to compose and improv so that i get the ok from myself when i get to that ill feel im a step closer from my life as a pianist, but you know the road with the piano doesnt really end does it? thats 1 of the things i love about it and about music in general
so you can say i want to be able to communicate with piano when that happens then ill say ive grown

I think The Entertainer is one of the easy songs for a begginer to play.........as I cant read music yet! I have to play by ear.

The Entertainer Is a highgradepiece!! But there is easyer scores of it ofcourse where you only have to use one finger in the melodyline insted of octavejumps and chordjumps. I think it originally is a grade 5-6-7/9 piece.
It was crip that told me that most of Joplins Rags are considered highgrade pieces like 7-8/9
Re: Any easy rags?
I don't play it with just one finger I used Shawncheekeasy on utube and just follow his graph for it.I find this easy to play..........it is an easy version though
