From the home of the Red Man !!!
And in at least one Native tongue thats OKLAHOMA !
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to be more specific in my case.
I was born and raised here. I got my first instrument in 6th grade, a trombone!
In seventh grade I was second chair and we took 2nd in state competition!
No telling how good I could of been if I would have practiced !
After my 13th birthday I lost interest in the trombone and couldn't play one today if my life depended on it.
During my teen years I sang some in a few bands, but wasn't very good at it to be honest.
As an adult my longest stint in a single profession was as a disc jockey. I can attest that it is a truism that every DJ is a frustrated musician.
Last april, at the urging of a couple of musicially inclined friends I purchased an acoustic bass.
I wouldn't say I am a great bass player by any means, but in less than 2 months I audition for and was accepted into a band!
That band has since broken up,but the drummer and I have joined another band!
The band I am currently in already had an awesome bass player, but they needed my voice!
About a month ago the band leader asked me if I would be willing to try and learn keyboards as well and sent me home with a set!
Currently My situastion is I sing lead on a number of tunes,do background vocals on most the rest and I am suposed to advance my bass play still as they expect to need to fill that roll on a few songs. All the while I am also to learn keyboards!
YUP,I am BUSY !!!!

Re: From the home of the Red Man !!!
Welcome aboard
At least you have a head start to some of us, as you should have the music theory at least somewhat learned? Good luck on your venture.

Re: From the home of the Red Man !!!
Thanks jyte!
Yes I am grateful that I have some background in music theory.
Being the least skilled musician in a band is something I never experienced before this year. But then really I am grateful to have the talented and skilled players to work with that I do!
I am especially grateful that they are being very patient with me!!!!
The only person thats hard on me is me!
Edit: Part of why I picked up the Bass was to avoid needing to play chords, that went out the window when I agreed to learn the keyboards!
2nd Edit: Its to my credit that I stay aware that a big part of receiving this opportunity has to do with my personality. I ama solid team player ,willing to look at what is best for the band not just me. Also I don't just play well with others,I play my very best with others!!!!! Thats what a band is really all about anyway!!!
