Reading Bass with Treble
Hello everybody. Is it humanely possible to read the treble and bass clefs at the same time?

Re: Reading Bass with Treble
The human brain can only do one thing at a time, that's a fact. But the brain can switch between things so fast, that it seems to us to be simultaneous.
I'm sure a pianist reads treble and bass "at the same time", it's just that we newbies don't qualify for that category as yet LOL.

Re: Reading Bass with Treble
I myself can read, listen to music and eat all at the same time with no problem. But it does require practice. Doesn't work differently for sheet reading.
Re: Reading Bass with Treble
But seriously, Anon, it may not seem that way in the beginning, but it does come with practice.
I don't know how old you are, but if you've driven a car or flown an airplane, you know how you keep "one eye on the outside and one eye on the instruments", it works the same way with sheet music.

Re: Reading Bass with Treble
Exactly, Jytte. Sorry for my out burst there. But, I bet you can do plenty of things that requires you to pay attention to two or even more functions. You can work yourself through sheet music just the same.
Re: Reading Bass with Treble
Right. So I gotta practice putting my left eye on the bass and my right eye on the treble
Haha!
Anyway, if I understand you correctly, jytte, I'm supposed to sort of scan the treble and bass and then tell my right and left hands what to do.

Re: Reading Bass with Treble
I don't know where you're at (piano playing wise), but I tell you, in the beginning I had to look at the treble, place fingers, look at the bass, place fingers, play a few notes together (sort'a), the start the process over HA HA. But now (let's just say I'm picking a easy piece here to play from the sheet), I start playing, and my brain is scanning a few notes ahead cleff and bass, and keeping an eye on where I'm going next on the keys (best way I can explain it). That comes with practice.
But in actuality, I'm not doing that much. I learn a piece, little bit by little bit, and then it's "in my hands" and from then on I just play it by memory, never look at the sheet again.
Im not very good at "sheet reading", don't know that I'll ever be, cause I'm not practicing that, seems more important to me to learn how to play songs, not necessarily be able to read them straight off the sheet, if that makes sense to you.
But hey, I'm just a newbie too.

Interesting you say, 'flying an airplane' as if that is a common thing.

Re: Reading Bass with Treble
Sorry, that's just what came to mind
And by the way, if you never have (flown), you should try it at least once, nothing like it.

This is some stupid scam to get you to click on the links. I've seen it in other threads too. I don't know why the moderators don't remove it.jazzylady wrote:what are you talking about alinas999
