Hehe, yeah, we are not used to that kind of results like the OL in 06... Last OL was a real poor one for Norway I think we will do better this year Im proud that my Country is the best Olympic Nation through history atm In 2002 we did get the most Gold, so hopefully we will be up there once again!^^

Re: Olympic Winter Games - Canada
NRK is streaming HD at nrkol.no
I dont have a HDTV, so I gotta use my computer to watch HD atm ( i'm not gonna bother moving my monitor downstairs to watch ), would've been nice if nrk could bump the bitrate from 3.5mbit to 4.5mbit on the stream tho...
I'm following the russian female curling team and our own norway in hockey ^_^
Just great

Because they are on "last" place.. That is among the ones that Have taken medals Since there is many nations that never have taken any top 3 at all..

Re: Olympic Winter Games - Canada
Norway did a bad 1 round vs USA ( hockey ), but in the 2nd part they kicked bum. It also seemed as they had more control over the play compared to the 1 where they ran around like animals. Too bad they couldnt keep it up till the end.
I'm looking forward to the USA vs Canada, but i bet Canada will do a good job as always ^_^

Re: Olympic Winter Games - Canada
I will watch Canada - Russia soon That is a great match even for me who aren't a huge fan of Hockey But its the Olympics, and things are much more fun when its connected to these games! Im routing for Canada
On a side note: Norway got 6Gold now, Its been a couple of rough days after some great days. We have gotten lots of Silver medals! But in the Olympics, the Gold is what matters, at least for me So I hope we can take at least 2more Gold, and hopefully 4 Gold so we can hit 10 Gold Medals which I predicted before the Games started, that is possible Crossing my fingers

Re: Olympic Winter Games - Canada
Like everything the Olympics comes down to finances as well just like many things in this world.
If you have money as a country you can build world-class ranks etc, you can afford to pay excellent trainers and if you personally have lot of money or your parents then you can pursue sport careers, train hard for the Olympics. No surprise even the Russians go to the US for training in certain sports.
Many countries like the US, Germany, Canada etc put an enormous effort to train and qualify more athletes improving the chances for them for medals. There are hundreds of them on the Olympics while many other countries can only send maybe 10 athletes, that is a big difference.
In my opinion it is already an achievement for all those countries that can send athletes who qualify only to participate no matter where they land on the rank.
Im kinda disappointed in the US broadcasting... they cut most of other countries athletes out to show theirs... I know they have so many but still I am used to watch all kind of nations and now I can barely see some out of North America.
In one minute I am watching speed skating next minute jumps two minute later figure skating... it is kinda dizzying.
Poor poor Finnish are completely hammered by the US hockey team right now...

Re: Olympic Winter Games - Canada
Oh and about the comparisons i would say it is better to compare results in the unified medal table ... not all countries have a chance to shine on winter olympics.
All time olympic medal count
1 USA 2511
2 Soviet union 1204
3 Great Britain 736
...
5 Germany 689
...
9 Hungary 465
...
12 Norway 424
I think Hungary has nothing to be ashamed of. Being about the size of an average-sized state in the USA in the combined list Hungary is on the 9th place from all the participant countries with 465 medals all together.
In this comparison Romania is on the 19th place big difference.

Re: Olympic Winter Games - Canada
WOW I didnt know Norway was this good in The Overall Medal Stats as well I knew we atm is the best Winter Olympic Nation, but we are not a Summer Olympic Nation, so this was good news
Remember we are 4,5 million in Norway.. Compared to Germany ex which is Over 80 Million people .. So I find the stats very satisfying
So that we are able to hit like we do against nations like USA, Germany and Russia with Lots and Lots of millions of people, I must say Im very proud
Historical Medal Statistics in Winter Olympic Games pre 2oIo
Also in the OLYMPICS - Gold is really the Only important medal Silver and Bronze is okay.. But if I where to grade the medals:
Gold = 100 points
Silver = 15 points
Bronze = 10 points
Everything else, and also Silver and Bronze is only good on a personal level Not in my mind on a National level, at least not for Me hehe

Re: Olympic Winter Games - Canada
I dont think silver or bronze is bad at all.... That probably has to do with I'm paying attention to stats and numbers. And I think Bronze is the most good looking color ^_^
It doesnt even need to be seconds that separate a gold from a 4th place, but ofcouse when you get the Gold medal you're the best in the world at that time. ( poor dude who fell right before the finish at the 50km, he probably could've got a bronze, but didnt ^_^ )
These close games are the best to watch tho. But that doesnt change the fact that the next day the result could be quite different.
Here in norway our kids get skiing and skating practice for free tho, what norwegain kid doesnt have a pair of skis? And if you look at what we're good at in the olympics, it's skiing. And skating in circles ^_^
