Someone help clarify somethin PLEASEEE!!

so im lookin at the sheet music for Fur Elise... just been gettin into classical music and theory so this is killin me... on the first page of it there is like brackets above 2 bars with the number 1 and the number 2 on each one.... what in the world does this mean??!! is it so i can repeat the first section over and over and then move to the section 2 part as i feel? Id like to play the song perfectly and properly so tell me what that would entitle! thanks to whoever can help me

I think it means that when you play the second time you skip the bars numbered one and go to two. A picture of what you mean might clarify.

Those brackets with the numbers usually mean you play the bracket 1. first time and when you play the repeat the second time than you use the part with the bracket 2 ( but leave out bracket number 1).
