Hi from Birmingham UK
I found Andrew's marvelous YouTube videos this weekend having bought myself a keyboard last week.
I used to play a bit of piano. I was taught to read basic music by my grandmother when I was a child and would generally mess around learning music from the score but a bar at a time by heart. Very restrictive. I have come back to the piano again and again but have never really put any structure to what I do so I'm really pleased to find this series of lessons which explain what lies behind what I have been trying to do. I'm in my 50s now and it's really time I got more pleasure out of playing the piano instead of frustration at not progressing beyond a very basic and very poor skill.
Anyway that's me. Not sure how much time I will have to visit this forum but I'm off for a little look around.

Re: Hi from Birmingham UK
I've been watching the videos since yesterday and am now looking at the Circle of fifths. That would be such a great title for a Dan Brown style novel. I can read music but I've never understood it before. This is marvelous as it's all now fitting into place. I haven't touched the keyboard since I started to watch as I just want to soak up the information for now.

Re: Hi from Birmingham UK
I know what you mean, Circle of Fifths is just perfect
I did the same at first, enjoyed watching Andrew's videos, his style engaged me the most from all the teaching videos on Youtube.
It is so great that you found and joined the forum after such a short time, it is like an additional help besides the videos.
Have fun watching the videos it takes quite some time to watch them all but they are really helpful

Re: Hi from Birmingham UK
I just managed to play all the major scales from the lessons so far although I have trouble with F. Anyway on to figure out the minor scales which I'm less clear on.
Thanks for the welcome.

Re: Hi from Birmingham UK
Dont say that Mary, it is going to get much easier from now on because you learn more and more and you will practice. I started from completely beginner level and with dedication in few months I really felt good about my improvement.
Well just stay in the path it is a "use it or lose it" game at first, every time I fell out of the practice I felt like starting over somewhat...
Enjoy Sunday and the rest of the next week

Thank you. I've had a bit of a week off the piano due to other commitments. I plan to get properly started this weekend. I'm up to about video 29 of the learning the piano. I want to watch them all before I really get stuck in, then go back and start from the beginning.
I shall then have a look at the music theory videos.
