To You Tube, or not to You Tube?
I'm a little torn on whether or not to record and upload videos of me playing the pieces I've learned on the piano. I see some positives, but also some negatives. So I would like to get some of your feedback and opinion. Plus, it gives us another topic to discuss.
On one hand, I like the idea of having finished learning a song, and posting a video on you tube just kind of adds that sense of closure, finality, and accomplishment.
The only other positive I can think of is that might help others here to get to know me a bit more. Nothing personal like my favorite kind of ice cream (orange sherbet, by the way) or anything like that, but I'm always fascinated watching videos of others here playing, so I would like to do the same thing.
On the downside, the biggest hurdle for me at the moment is the technical challenge of just creating the videos. (Yes, I have the equipment.) The one thing I know I want to do is record the video and audio separate. I'm not a big fan of video recorder mics, so I would record the song directly on my keyboard and synchronize the video and audio together later. This would also allow different camera angles (so it's not so boring to watch), but that of course means more synchronizing, and more work.
It just sounds like a lot of work to me, time that I could be spending on the PIANO, which I'm trying to learn how to play, by the way, and which is already consuming most of my (limited) free time and even some of my sleepy time. (priorities!)
So, what do you think? Should I go for it or is my time better spent practicing more?

Re: To You Tube, or not to You Tube?
i would like to see you play.
and if you deside to go on you tube, you do not have to cut an paste the whole video in a few days. i think you have time
so you can spilt your time in making the video and playing piano.
anyway, the first video will be the hardest, the more videos you tape and modify, the quicker you will become.
so i would say: go for it

Re: To You Tube, or not to You Tube?
One thing you didn't mention. There's a lot of hate speech on youtube, so if you're a sensitive soul, make sure to disable comments. :p (I think it's more fun not to, but then again I don't post I just watch stuff there).
If you're genuinely curious of what people may say about your performance then by all means go for it, I'm sure it can't be all that difficult... after the first one it won't take a whole lot of time.
PS: I like to watch the amateur videos, beginners (and not only)... so yeah post... so there'll be some more

That's probably the only negative thing ( but we should just ignore it or laugh about it ). Lets just think about them losers who actually take time to write "hate", just that they'll take time to write show us how "nobody" they really are. If they dont like it why do they watch it ^_^

I always find it quite amusing to read the "hate" comments. espesially when they start cussing at eachother for the different comments! it can really be hillarious..
and Id love to see a posting from you! its always so encouraging for the other beginners to see a beginner play beautiful pieces. Im not far enough to record any of my playing (unless anybody is really really interested in an extremly boring version of "twinkle twinkle little star")
So yeah, go for it!

I'd say the positives far outweight the negatives, go for it!

Re: To You Tube, or not to You Tube?
Thanks, all, for your feed back.
As for the haters, well, I would like to think I could take random and anonymous criticism. I could take every comment personally and eventually find myself curled up in a permanent fetal position, or just do the manly thing and delete my videos and You Tube account.
As for the videos, I began the process tonight. So far it has been a roller coaster ride of technological buffoonery. I managed to get everything recorded and transferred to my computer, but I am not sure I will be able to finish tonight. Some day, perhaps.
Along the way, despite a couple of mishaps and a LOT of time, I've discovered that this is going to be a lot of fun!

Re: To You Tube, or not to You Tube?
Ignoring them is best, then you can still have the constructive criticism and positive posts at least : )
I'm not really there yet and don't have a camera even but I'd definitely do it if I could. :p
Best of luck, post in the performances section or here or somewhere so we can sign up to your channel!

Re: To You Tube, or not to You Tube?
So tonight was spent experiencing more technological buffoonery. Apparently You Tube does not like certain types of video formats (my computer is not even that old ). This was extremely frustrating, but after several attempts at rendering my video in different formats, I finally discovered the right way to do it.
The first, and very short (minus all the other stuff ) performance can be found in the performance forum.
Yay, you tube!
