Hello from Massachusetts
Hi everyone, my name is Justin, I'm 23, and I've been playing piano on and off (okay, mostly off) since I was 11.
When I started, I took lessons for a couple years from a pastor's wife, playing on a cheap electric keyboard, but I never received a foundation in technique or music theory. I just learned songs. Basically the opposite of Andrew's teaching philosophy Well, I don't feel like I learned much in those two years, and I eventually stopped playing for a long time. Last year I started to get my motivation back and bought a Yamaha P85 to start playing on and pick up my broken pieces. I played around a bit but didn't really get anywhere. A couple weeks ago, I asked one of my online musician friends for advice and direction, and he pointed me to Andrew's awesome videos. I feel like I've made more progress in these past two weeks than I did in the two years I played with a teacher, so I guess that says something for Andrew's philosophy! Well okay I have to give myself a little credit for also trying harder this time
I'm looking forward to learning a variety of things, but my main interest is in video game and contemporary music. Anyway, hopefully I'll tap into this community some more and not just be a shadowy lurker. Thanks everyone!
