Helloooooo
Hello, 17 male from California. I've always wanted to play piano, me being a fan of music
but no one in my family is musically inclined, so yeah. I stumbled upon Andrew's videos and it
made me want to learn how to play. I don't think I can get lessons, so I'll be teaching myself
everything. I'm sure with Andrew's videos and practice I can learn, except I have motivation problems.
I can't seem to get myself to do anything. I read some of Maggie's posts and I admire her determination,
and I wish I could be as motivated as she is. Anyway, I'm glad Andrew has this site, and he does it all for free
which I think is just great.

What sort of things do you want to play? what composer? Fast or slow? etc

First of all welcome.
Thanks for the compliment. Determination is just a simple decision. A priority list what is important for you.
I am sure there are things in your life that you like to do all the time or you could not miss. This is what important for you and you will do everything to make it happen... if playing the piano - what you always wanted - is strong in your desires, feelings, believe me you WILL find the time and way to learn it. If it is not so strong that is not a problem either.
The wonderful thing in learning something on your own is that you set the pace. Noone is going bug you where you are at...
Dont be hard on yourself, I am sure if you really like it, you will devote your time to learn and practice. If you are not motivated too much only means this is not on the top of your importance list, but hey that is ok too.
You have plenty of time to learn... just look at Michael's post, it is never too late.
10-20 minutes "here and there" can do it...
Just remember one thing, no pressure!! No exams or tests, learning the piano is an enjoyable adventure.
So come and be our friend here and you will learn a lot of things without too much effort.
Everyone here is eager to help the other with advices... that is what I really like, a nice real democratic community.
Just like Andrew said let us make you more interested and motivated.
( Hope I was not too long for you )
Re: Helloooooo
I think if I just DO it I'll be decent in no time. I think most things work like that, the more you do it, the better you get. I just want to be good at playing the piano, I don't think I have a certain style or anything I want to play in particular. I'm a fan of Randy Newman and what he does, and I'm also into rock, but I do want to dive into classical stuff.
I really like the Debussy piece Andrew played, and everything Maggie said is right, I can go as fast as I want, no pressure.
Thanks for the replies everyone, I'll make sure to post more. I don't really have a life anyway.
