This beautiful piece is called Comptine D'un Autre Été by Yann Tiersen.
Watch the movie, hear the music.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sr64NI33qUo

One of the best piano solos I have heard. And the animation goes just perfect along with it!

Sheets here if you want: http://www.scribd.com/doc/2416992/Yann-Tiersen-Comptine-autre-ete

Yeah it's a great piece. Is it just me or is it really hard to play the left hand part?

Its actually very easy! But it can be a little painful Razz hehe
Its demands normal hands to move a little awkward! But its easy cause its sort of 1 move you do over and over and over and over and over Smile Its 4chordmovements, but to do them you have to do the same, only with other keys. Sort of like doing a C-chord and a G-chord - They are different, but the move is the same! Smile

Either my hands are too small or not strong enough or I'm doing something wrong. I can reach an octive easily enough but to do it continuously even through a short piece is agony for me.

i have big problems to play this song with both hands.

1 hand is not a big problem but together.. Sad

i start the song with left hand and when the part for the right hand begins i get stuck with left hand everytime.

is this song that difficult or is it me?

Hehe Smile Well, you arent doing it Slow enough!!!!! Smile You can NEVER expect to learn both hands and the Magically they can be played together!!! Smile How fast did you go when you first learned the Right hand??
How fast did you go when you learned the Left hand?????? Well, you HAVE to go much slower when LEARNING hands together, than when you learned both hands! ALOT slower! Smile

Go SOOOO Slow that you dont make a single mistake, even if this means that you have to Use 1 hour to play the piece, cause IF you mess up by going at a speed that makes you do mistakes, you Are infact going to fast! DONT speed up until you can go so slow that you arnt making a single mistake!! Smile

Every time you make a mistake, you have to practice it 13times in a row without mistakes for your brain to forget that mistake! So just think about all the extra times you have to practice if you mess up all the time!! Smile That why its better to go REALLY SLOW, cause even if you "use more time" in the beginning, and it might seem dragy, you will manage to play the piece A WHOLE LOT FASTER Smile

Hehe, sorry for the CAPS-Mania Smile

I've just learnt to play it over the past 4 days or so. I also play the drums - i think that helped on the arpeggios because I didn't have any problems coordinating the rhythms.

It hurts my hands though - should you stop playing if your hands hurt or it it good for them - it almost feels like they're being stretched!

Stretched don't sound good dude. If your hands are like, playing something different for the first time and maybe you need to stretch your fingers to reach a note then like okay, for the first few times and your hands should adjust but like, if you're playing repeatedly you need rests and if your hands aren't adapting or reaching far enough or you're tensing you need to change how you play. Relax those hands dude! bounce

Smile when you do something new, it tends to feel like a stretch on the fingers. Just take lots of breaks and go slow and in a few days it'll stop hurting as your hands will have ajusted Smile
