You should measure your progress with how much you have improved on sight reading and how well your hands and eyes are coordinated.

Hi Mitya
I am also a new player ..and i found that i measure my progress through knowledge i have gained in both THEORY and PRACTICAL aspects , when i first started to learn ,i had no knowledge in theory at all and little on practical ...but 3 months later i can play most scales with correct fingering and a few little shorts simple pieces,so if i am not practising i am reading and preparing myself for my nxt challenge lol
therefore UNDERSTANDING what you play is more important than playing ,which comes after ..so i measure my progress in not only my playing but also what knowledge i have gained ,which is why i am always on this lovely site picking everyones brains subconsciously LOL.

I keep a diary which I fill in after a session, write lists all the time and quite frantically and I've recorded lots and lots of goals. I'm also working through a book and you have to know the previous section inside out in order to progress so therefore I know how far I'm getting by page number. Looking back through past diaries etc will show you how well you're doing when you notice something you previously couldn't do you now find easy.
