Eurovision Song Contest 2010

Anyone watching the contest? I don't like the entry of my country, but the ones from Armenia and Romania:





Of course, no complex music, just good pop music

I suppose congratulations Germany indeed.

I used to watch the Eurovision most years when I lived in England, however, since living in Australia for several years, obviously, it is not as popular or even available to watch.

There was a actually an Australian guy getting interviewed live during the show this time
I have also heard that of the Non-participating countries Australia is one of the most devoted to the show

Maybe they will be. Can't see it taking on many viewers though as the majority of Australia sees it more as a joke than anything else.

Actually, the song contest has been televised here in Australia (on free to air tv) for the last 26 Years! We used to get the british commentary of Terry Wogan but now have our own commentary team at the Song Contest.
There is a big following here, but I would not say mainstream.

Many sees it as a joke here in Norway to, as well as rest of Europe, but there is still many who dont. Im not a fan of the show, but have seen it 3-4 times during my life mostly cause my parents allays had it as a tradition!

Yeah, thats what I have heard, and thought

If the music and performers are good, then I think it can be a great outlet for emerging songwriters and performers. There have been people in the past who have used the Euroovision song contest as a starting platform - unfortunately there are others who have seen their future career diminish.

For me there is a wide variance in the quality of the music and the performers. E.g. I think the singer of the German entry is an average singer and the music is very simplistic (only 3 chords for the whole piece and very simple rhythm), but maybe it has some earworm quality and the singer is a nice and likeable girl. The Armenia entry has a deeper song text, more interesting music and of course, Eva Rivas is a better singer than Lena and looks better

I didn't watch the Eurovision contest on Tv but watched some youtube videos and it seems I didn't lose much. I find the music presented very shallow overall. As examples discussed here, to me romanian song was among the worst, looked like '90s, sounded like '90s and was overally kinda simplistic, shallow and shiny in a bad way. German one was a little better but I was not impressed by any of the songs. Some were a little better than others but nothing outstanding. If it was my choice others would have gotten the top positions but overall I couldn't say I liked any of the songs really.
It may very well be a matter of taste, but I am wondering. Why are they doing this? I hear better music in pubs at times, by noname bands - in terms of originality, complexity (I don't care about technical complexity, I mean musical complexity).

As one example. There's this new favorite of mine. They formed in 2007, they did all kind of different music before. I seen them last year in a cave-pub here in Budapest. They mix a lot of musical styles in their music, some of them I like, some not, overall I think they're probably better than the Eurovision bunch.

And they just seem like regular people, that like music, struggle to pay the rent and look just like me or anyone else from the street.

No offense to anyone, I'm sure it's mostly down to taste. But to me a lot of today's music seems to be way too simple and boring. They seem to try and compensate with the show, shiny videos or good chix (which is not a bad thing in itself) but then I am not appreciating purely the music.

Hi. I watched Eurovision Song Contest 2010 on TV and I think also that there was a big difference in songs and music quality. During watching that contest I mainly listened attentively to entrants voice and their music. I liked very much Belarus and Israel songs.
