Well, I had them but I removed them because they were really old and I sucked badly back then, I only got my compositions up now, but I'll make one soon and you'll hear how it will sound when you have mastered this =)

Yes it is an official scale =) Well, im not good with describing fingering, just keep try running up and down the scale and you'll work it out for yourself(it's REALLY easy compared to other scales!)

Gb Major is the same as F# Major just two different names for it =). Good luck!

According to superbook found elsewhere on this forum, the correct ascending fingering for RH is 41231234. No thumb on the black keys it seems.

Complety random improvisation who if I didnt know music would not be able to tell was improvised. Actually if you didnt tell me, and went "this is "Chablybluhblah of Dablehbingbang" I would have belived you.

So Ive gone crazy looking for improv vids and help and tips and tricks.

How do people move their hands like that? Its so insanly fast. Especially on scales. Is it just practice?

I feel a little... uninspired, possibly overinspired.

If you practice it, its not hard at all So yeah, its just practice

The first thing you have to do is put all the left hand chord arpeggios in your muscle memory, so you can focus on your melody and play the arpeggios without think of it...

But it should be said that piano isnt easy, that's why very many tend to quit, since they think it'll be easier than it is, it's not like a guitar where you can sit down, learn a few chords, and sing along.

But when you first can do the piano, it feels very easy,
it's all about alot of practice, practice, practice...

And following pianohama's guide + read music theory = a good way to learn improvisation.

The arpeggio pattern is the same as that girl on Oprah uses.

I like how you added intervals. And the first (real) one was very simplistic and nice.

Yeah well what I'm trying to show is that you shouldn't be afraid to play around alittle. Also keep in mind that 2's are really nice to put into arpeggios. for example:

C Major: C ( D ) E G The D is the second, it sounds really awesome to put into an arpeggio

A Minor: A ( B ) C E The B is the second, this also sounds awesome and gives that extra sad spice to it.

The theme should be sad, and somewhat repetetive.

Any superb ideas? Scale, tips and tricks.

Well Im no improv expert, so Ill leave the deep answer to someone else. But a couple of tricks that you can use if you want to as a starter:

Choose a minor scale - Easyer to create sad pieces then. A minor is really nice and somewhat easy to improv in since its only white keys.

Be sure to start the piece on the tonic(a) unless you know how to lead into the scale using other keys like a 5th or 7th. Starting on the tonic is at least safe.

I think pieces that leaves some space are better at being sad. So dont push a lot of keys all the time, try to find a simple theme and if you manage to do so, try to repeet it before you end the piece. Try to use a 5th or 7th as the last note before you hit the tonic as a finale note.

Learn your scale in and out. Thats important to do a good improv. If you know the scale very good you can explore as those 80 sec goes in a much better whay.


These tips have no roots in theory(they might have) but its really just my "common sense" talking, and some boring moments at the piano talking rather than my knowledge in this field Hope its a bit helpeful though, and might give you some ideas

My suggestion:
Slow tempo, minor scale

I would use this progression: A min, G Maj, F Maj, E Maj

Another beautiful progression: Amin, G Maj, C Maj, G Maj
This second one is specially beautiful because of the C Maj which is the relative major,
and when you go into it you will get a glimpse of "happy" into the sad progression which gives that
feeling of "there might still be hope" in your sad piece . Choose whichever you like mate =)

A tip on your improv: THINK FORWARD
Never get stuck for to long in a pattern, or the listeners will get bored! Always think "Ok how can I proceed from this?"
Yes, ofcourse some repetitions are good so the listeners feel it's actually a theme and not something completely random you're playing, but only repeat the "sweet spots" you find.. Remember you want to TEASE the audience, not BORE =)!
You can try starting out with the first chord progression I gave you which is VERY sad and then change to the other one which has a glimpse of "happy" in it to give some variation at the end =) GL mate

It is however close to done, I will upload it when editing/perfection is done. It is highly repetetive, a complete pattern song. I still like it though. Its supposed to be the sole sound in an experimental movie, which carries the theme of repetetive days and lonelines.

I think its quite fitting.

Minor arpeggios are fine, but what I think it's terrible about them is that one note wrong and all the piece turns into something else.

Obviously, this can be used for the good, but it's inspiration-breaking sometimes.

Actually I often accidently his wrong notes on my arpeggios, but if you know how to cover up your mistakes people wont notice.. But you can't get away with it on famous compositions ;p

Yeah well, you can either be a genius and start composing something from that mistake, which would be awesome, or you could just keep playing like the mistake never happened
