A question of the method Empty A question of the method

Hi, first of all I want to congratulate you because of your webpage and usefull videos, since the fisrt time I saw them I got more interested in learning piano. I'm from Nuevo León, México and I started learning piano a year ago with the method of John Thompson (and continuing with the same method) and I want to know if this is a good method and if this doesn't create me something of dependency in the way that I play the lessons because in every lesson above the note mark me the number of the finger that I need to play and I have noted that I only see the numbers to play correctly and not the notes so I want to know if this is part of the process or if I need to avoid that numbers.
Thankyou [/font]

Hi, welcome to the forums! Anyways, it's ok if you mark the notes, but only for a few times, you said you started a year ago, so I think you should start learning the actual notes xD. Also, try to close your eyes and guide yourself to the notes by the black notes, it's not neccesary, but it's useful if you want to kinda feel where the notes are.

Well said!! Its time to learn the notes without any tools or marks now!
In the beginning, first month or so, I marked every key on my keyboard with the notename.. Then I figured out that this made me dependent on the keynames, and not the keys themselves! So I took of the letters cause I didnt want that to be the case... And then I couldnt play the songs I had learned!! I had to relearn it Razz But, then suddenly It felt natural! Its not the exact same in your case, but the issue is the same. Dont get to dependent! Smile

Im not familiar with the mothod, I never used a method, but might be good! How far have you come this past year? Thats really the only way of telling if its a good method or not Smile

At complicated parts in a piece where fingering isn't so obvious or i'd prefer to do it a special way I number which finger I want to play the notes on, sometimes I number all the notes with which finger I want to play them with so I learn the best way and most comfortable way of playing.

You really need to learn the actual names of the notes though so eventually you can pick up any score and play it. Very Happy
