You are right, seems like you have absolute pitch. There was a problem with the master samplerate of the soundcard: it was 44.1 kHz, but I recorded with 48 kHz. I couldn't hear it, because I don't have absolute pitch, but this was the reason for the synchronization problems and when comparing the two samplerates with one tone, I could hear it.

And then the piece itself was different from most other versions, which starts with "d": The version I've found starts with "a". I think it sounds better when starting with "d", so I've recorded a new version:

Franks Performances - Inkl;Schneefl÷ckchen Wei▀r÷ckchen etc - Page 2 Empty pentatonic scale (black keys) piano improvisation

Post by frank Wed Apr 07, 2010 3:57 am

This is my first (recorded) improvisation, using a pentatonic scale, where I can't make harmonic mistakes Very Happy

Could be more interesting (it is still difficult for me to play more complex bass rythms in parallel with a melody), but I think it is great for training rythm and expression.

Next time you should try only the white keys. Gives you a 2 more keys, and the possibility to add more dissonanse. Dissonance is like wrinkles in an old mans face. Adds depth.

I wouldnt worry about the bass rythm ( even tho I'll agree that it didnt sound that interesting, even tho it sounded good ^_^ ), if you just keep on improvising a little when you warm up ( if you do warm ups Razz ) before playing and practicing other pieces you'll be able to do more complex improvs in no time.

When only playing the black keys you also play a "chinese/japanese" scale. I dont know if you're familiare with that asian sound, but when you do, the black keys are the key to get it out. ( ofcourse you could use C-D-F-G-A too etc. )

Playing the white keys for an improvisation difficult for me, because I don't know which ones sound good before I hit it Smile

Regarding the asian sounds: this is a very nice and relaxing asian sound improvisation, using the "Gong Diao" scale:

Post by frank Sat May 22, 2010 4:58 pm

Finally I got some time to learn the Song of Twilight:

It is easy, but I needed still some days until I could play it without wrong notes. I tried some varying dynamics and tempo, like in Andrew's performance of this piece, I hope you like it Smile

Those are pretty cool videos, Frank. Give music the time to involve you entirely and you will not play only with your fingers, but with your heart as well. Keep it up. (:

I'm still learning a difficult piece. But in the meantime, two simple nice pieces:

This is an old folksong:

And some cool game music:
