Re: Piano or Keyboard; DGX-630 yamaha
well, a keyboard is limited by a light action and a very small dynamic range. but it's ok because once you get a piano you will be able to learn how to express yourself even more
great job on your piece though I'm looking forward to more!

u mean the keyboard is hard to play on or the opposite or what ??!
I want to know..cos I dont understand the real difference between the keyboard and the piano..

Well, a keyboard is a keyboard To be honest the music loose most of it content on a keyboard since you dont got any dynamic control! Andrew once told me, 1year ago now, it has stuck with me cause it was very wisely put
"When you know the notes, you have only done 20% of the job"
So this basically mean that on a keyboard you Can almost only do 20-30% of the job!!
Interpretation is Essential! And you cant really interpret a piece on a keyboard!! Only thing you can control is the tempo! Add some rubato(means to have varied speed).
I started on a keyboard, and the difference is Enormous!!!!
I felt that those 3months I had on the keyboard, that I had missed out on so much! And my development didnt start for real until I got my Digital Piano
My opinion:
On a keyboard, you can only give a hint of what music sounds like!
But on a piano, you can Create music!!

Re: Piano or Keyboard; DGX-630 yamaha
I'm getting a yamaha p85, it has pedals and proper piano-like weighted keys, but its £550. I know it won't be as amazing as a piano, but I'm sure it'll do great for learning on for later transfer and explosion of expressive masterfulness on a grand or summit

What do u think about DGX-630 yamaha is it useful ??
Yeah But its not starting from the beginning though, but im pretty sure you are only delaying your developement and might get into bad habbits, and you loose time to build strength! So IF you can get a piano, upright or dgital you Should do it as soon as possible
Im not sure what the DGX is like, but you have to have good dynamic control, Weighted keys, pedals and good sampled sounds if you first are going for it!! You can get this for about 1000$+
But might get some great offers on early models ect that are less, but I think thats harder to find!
My piano is a medium model and cost 3000$, and the lowest model where about 1500$+/- and the most expensive was 4500$+/-
I would recommend Not buying a dynamical keyboard with semi-weighted keys! Then I think its better to save another year to get something good and worthy the time you spend on it!
Based on the hours I have had at the piano, its probably the cheapest "entertainment-thing" I have ever bought(pr hour). I have bought games for 80$ and spendt 3-4hours on it
Thats 20$ pr hour but this piano, lets say I have 250hours on it or more thats 12$ pr hour, and still I got sooo many hours to come!!
Re: Piano or Keyboard; DGX-630 yamaha
Great way of putting the hours thing Thomandy I feel a lot nicer about giving away lots of money now :3

Re: Piano or Keyboard; DGX-630 yamaha
the DGX630 is one of the best cheap models to start with i'd say you can use it until your a late intermediate or early advanced pianist
the importaint thing is that you're still playing just because you play a keyboard doesn't mean you can't improve right now, but down the road you'll need something better.
You're doing great! keep going!

Re: Piano or Keyboard; DGX-630 yamaha
That's what you call a music workstation, anyway what do u use to record ur videos?
Re: Piano or Keyboard; DGX-630 yamaha
i guess its a digicam . about the piano.. our school had a upright and i thing its free to use. do you think it will help when i play that 1-2hrs a day after school?? then practice in my keyboard?? coz there's no space in our house now for a digital. we will extend our house next year. then after that ill buy my digital or an upright but a year is a long time. do you think that i should use the piano in school for a year so i can practice in a piano not on keyboard??

Re: Piano or Keyboard; DGX-630 yamaha
LOL at least its a digicam I only use my father's Nokia N70
Well, based on my opinion, practice your arpeggios, riffs and scales on your keyboard and practice expressionism and dynamics/harmony on the piano at school. If the key sizes are the same.
Well that's just me, wait for Andrew's advice on the topic since he's the teacher.
Andrew! we need you fast!

Well true that Andrew's advice does play a big role but everything really depends on how you feel about it. If you're comfortable and confident with it, you should definitely get it.
Re: Piano or Keyboard; DGX-630 yamaha
Well, to be honest, I just said the DGX is good because I've played one a few times but I haven't played that many keyboards. I just know the DGX is decent for a decent price i think Thomas's piano would be better, but the DGX is a cheaper alternative.
Also, I don't think i'm really an athority on keyboards I know more about acoustic pianos and music in general XD
