Post by CaptainAhabNZ on Sat Oct 18, 2008 1:24 am

Hi Andrew,
It would be great to see a video lesson on musical styles, ie what makes a waltz a waltz etc how should it sound (and other types to...what makes a rag a rag etc), i'm not sure if my question makes sense but I know what i mean....i think confused

It makes good sense to me atleast ^_^

I would like that too. I have actually been looking for what makes this and that music this and that way, but havent really found any good information.

But ofcourse, Andrew cant know everything, but different styles within the piano shouldnt be a problem for him ( I think ).

A waltz is recognized because it's always played in 3/4

Actually pretty much ALL 3/4 songs ARE waltz about 99% Smile the closet you'd get to an exception would be a waltz written in 6/8 but that is still unlikely. You would NEVER see a waltz in 4/4 our in any duple or hybrid meter. That sounds like a good topic to do a new lesson on. I'll think about it, I do have some other plans/ideas for new lessons, but ever since that 400 hours i spent blasting out those 36 lessons, i've felt a bit lazy. I think I just did to much at once. Pretty soon I'll be up to making new lessons. ^_^ I hope you guys understand.

Well maybe not, there are VERY few songs that are 3/4 and arent waltz, think of it this way:

All 3/4 songs are not waltz,
but all waltz are 3/4.

However you can sometimes be deceived by a 6/8 song that sounds "kinda" like 3/4,
most ballades goes in slow 6/8 (but some goes in 4/4 to) ^^
