Practice Problem! Empty Practice Problem!

Post by ScottCameronM Thu Dec 16, 2010 9:48 am

Hey,

I've just got my keyboard yesterday. I've been looking at the Lessons of Andrew's. Really fantastic, I've learnt quite a lot.
The only problem is when I want to play lower notes with my Left Hand and higher notes with my Right hand.

I can't make my left hand play the notes while I play with my right hand. The only way I can do it is when I play all the notes at the same time, and well. It doesn't sound to right Laughing

Any ideas or help?

Regards,
Scott-Cameron

You got your keyboard yesterday, and sadly Andrew and all the other pianists at youtube make it look easy ^_^

It takes a while to get the hang of it, especially playing with both hands at the same time because that's hard. First of all you want to start out with a very easy song/piece. Then you practice the right hand first. And when you got that memorized you start practicing the left hand. When you can play both parts you merge em together playing with both hands. And do it slow, there is no need to rush, because it'll require time.

In a couple of months you'll be doing it ok, depends on how much you practice tho. Practice alot and do it slow. When you can do it slow without errors you can then increase the speed. You could also do rythm practices. Like 1 beat in the left, two in the right etc. That'll improve the independence of each hand.

Haha! That's very true. It looks so easy when they attempt it.

I know, I'm going to try nearly everyday for the next few months. I like to-do 30 minutes on and off, so like 30 minutes practice. Then an hour off, then another half-an-hour and so on..

I've been trying a few songs like; Just the way you are by Burno Mars and How to save a life by The Fray. It's difficult, but I guess I will keep trying untill I get it perfecto!

Just practice, and you'll be able to pull it off in no time! Very Happy

I'm new to piano playing too, but I've decided to practice with Scales and Arpeggios first, try it it's worth a while.

And try "Arabesque" by Burgmuller. It gives you a steady rhythm with your left hand while playing with your right hand, a good study piece to start with.

You have to learn to control both hands independently.

Try eighth notes on your lefts then trying doing a melody on your right.
very easy.

I recommend that you check out this book:

It will help you alot if you read at least the first parts of the book and start applying the methods there.
