Ok, so some music I think I can listen to I don't know how many times in a row and still be every bit into it as when I first pressed the play button. I'm sure a lot of people have songs or pieces or whatever like that so I dunno maybe you could post a link to or mention some of those here? It could be interesting!

Here's one of the pieces I really love. It has the most incredible finale! Which lasts about 4 minutes! Most people here are probably way more into other styles of music but I'd say give it a shot as it really is very powerful.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxpOdMRUcRc&feature=related

Imagine that played by an orchestra with a violin playing the solo (if that's even possible?)! It really is a brilliantly written piece in my opinion.

Anyway, I'd love to hear about your favorite pieces!

I'm a huge fan of buckethead, he builds his songs in a special way, it's kinda built into blocks. He makes a riff, plays it a couple of times, then jumps to another, before he goes to the next until he arives at the start. But it works very well. Because he manages to merge them together in a good way.

I love this little clip, it doesnt show too much, but that's one good sounding part at 1:20, and you can see that "steven seagal" with the bass is really digging it and probably thinking "this man is goood", it's just sad the clip ends when it does.

Buckethead - Jordan <- gotta love how he uses the killswitch:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTcg9JybEp8

My favorite, Welcome To Bucketheadland, I can play this over and over. His live performances are great, he makes the guitar float and makes weird moves:

Rick Wakeman ( loud appluse in the beggining ), listened to this too much, but it never gets boring:

I still abuse this one, a new recording in HD is always nice ^_^

Wow, thanks for the reply! I've listened to bits of the pieces you linked to and so far Buckethead is my favorite of your favorites! I wasn't familiar with that piece so that was cool to sort of discover. I love Buckethead's riffs. They're so totally him! He's really got a fully developed, unique style of playing. I mean it's instantly recognizable. I recently discovered two more pieces of him called Dive bomber and Inferno. They're both amazing... Surprised

Here's links to them for those who have gotten interested. haha

Favorite pieces? Empty Re: Favorite pieces?

Post by VictorCS Thu Mar 31, 2011 6:44 pm

Lets bring this forum back to life and add a few more favorites of mine in this thead... These are pieces I've been practicing on my violin, but due to the fact that I cant do vibrato I wont upload own recordings yet. Vibrato on a violin is very hard, because the hand wont do what the brain says. For some reason it's very easy to memorize pieces for the violin, might have to do with not having to move the arm around alot and it's playing one string at a time. Two is possible, but i'm not there yet. What I found strange tho, is that I can play it with my eyes closed.

For some reason I keep getting attracted to game music, it's not that I dont like or listen to classical music, because I listen to more classical music than game music. But there's just something about game music.

Perfect dark pieces for violin:

One from the FFXI game, and another from FF2:

It really hurts to listen to these, because i'm taking a 2 week break from playing because my wrist hurts, I really love the joy in these pieces.

Game music can be interesting. Final Fantasy sounds really great when played by an orchestra with a chorus:

My current favorite is this epic piece from Rachmaninow, I can hear it again and again:

And each time I hear Liszt Totentanz, I think I "understand" it a bit more Smile :

In January I've bought the Oxford History of Western Music series of books. It's 5 books in the series, about 4000 pages and I've read about half of the first book so far. I read a little at the time when I find time. It's really awesome to say the least. Anyways, to the point now, through the book I've discovered many medival pieces and some of them are really awesome. Here are some of my favourites:

Perotin- Viderunt Omnes

Philippe de Vitry- Tuba Sacre fidei/In arboris empiro prospere/Libera me, Domine
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDdRL7PQ-vw

Unknown composer- Sumer is icumen in

Guillame de Machaut- Lasse!/Se j'aim loyal ami

Anyways, here are some more awesome pieces by Debussy:
